Blown Motor

My 2002 GTP has just under 100,000 miles. While driving the other day, the engine started knocking- LOUDLY. I was just driving normal, not getting on it. Had it towed to the dealer- they said it threw a rod. 3200 dollars for another motor with 45,000 miles on it installed. The car is totally stock- change the oil myself every 3,000 miles and nothing but 93 octane fuel has ever gone in it- bought the car brand new. Was wondering if this is "normal" amount of mileage for these cars-(I doubt it) or I'm just unlucky. thanks in advance for your replies.:th_depressed:

Do you have any mods?

He said it was stock.

Could have been mistreated or modded and de-modded by the previous owner. Just a thought. Normal mileage? Some of these cars last FOREVER. Some have 200K+ on them. Reptile runs 12's and has over 100K+ miles on his and it gets run HARD. Sounds like you just got a lemon like I did :p Then again...my lemon is my right foot LOL

I've blown two, so I think it's just a matter of bad luck.
As far as $3200, for a used motor, that's insane. I got a motor with 70,000 on it for $400, matching supercharger for an extra $250, and labor for about $350.

Car is bone stock- and I am original owner. I do use Fram oil filters- is this an issue? The 3200 dollars is for the complete engine with supercharger and installed. part of the expense is the state of NY- EVERYTHING is expensive here. labor is usually about 100 per hour!

stay away from fram oil filters......please use the more expensive brands as there is a difference between filters. do not pay $3200 for any used engine installed. This is a big time rip off.....generally with a good maintained vehicle you should get many more miles out of it than 100k. You should be able to find a motor for a max of about 800 dollars depending on mileage. Someone should be able to put the motor in for $600 or less......depending on your area....sometimes a little more. Good luck.. If the SC is included in the motor you will pay more for the motor, but should be able to save labor. They should be able to install the motor in about 8 hrs....

Mines still kicking hard with almost 200k on it and i beat on it
Ive read so many things on here and other forums about blown engines at 100k range seems weird to me.

3200 is way to much find an out of work mechanic get a block from morad and you should be driving in no time for around 1000-1200
Check craigslist for mechanics usually give good rates
