2005 grand prix gtp comp-g
Hey, So the other day i took my car for a car wash, it was pretty cold about -32F, did not think much about it, after the car wash i had the heat blowing high on the windshield so i did not fog up and drove for about 15 min back to my place. Later that day i went to go out and noticed that my interior fan was not blowing... i figured some water got in the fan and its frozen, so next day i took it to a shop i go to sometimes and asked the guy to pull it in overnight and try it in the morning.
So next morning i get a call from the mechanic and he says that the blower motor is filled with water and will have to be replaced, he quotes $325 for parts and labor, (Right away i know that's pretty high, But this shop does good work and is one of those napa autopro shops so the parts are usually of a good quality. And i have no heated place to work or i would of just done my the job myself). He also mentions that he can seal the leak where the water came in for another $300, I declined that since that's just crazy.
So now my blower motor works but i have noticed that if i turn the fan setting to max it does not blow nearly as hard as the old one use to, I would say max on this fan is about 60% on the other, So any reason for this? Is there a way he used a lower RPM fan or something and i way i could prove it so i could go back there?
And also the mechanic said the water came in from the wiper cowl, It lifts up near where the cabin filter sits, I was thinking some double sided tape but i am not sure that will be strong enough. Any other ways of making it seal to the windshield but still be easily removable if i have to go in there, (cabin filter, Wiper motor)
