In R.I. you can ride in between the lanes on a motorcycle if you are going less than 10mph. It is an old law on the books from when all motorcycles were air cooled and in heavy traffic (especially at the beach) they would overheat.
I agree to disagree with ya about the forfiture laws even for drug runners unless they could prove that illegal money was used for the purchases. I read a story a few months ago in NC they were seizing cars used in streetraces. Almost every single person on the mustang forum i am on decided they would then try to run and if that wasnt possible they would drive into a pole so they wouldnt be stuck with a payment on a car that the police were going to use to entrap fellow streetracers.I see that as a danger to fellow drivers.
Last spring there was a guy who got clocked on rt 146 by the state police doing a wheelie at 126mph. He saw the trooper behind him, put front wheel down , gave him the finger and sped away. They saw him an hour or so later in the city, guns drawn on him at a light, lifted his front wheel knocked the cop down and got away. The cops fired a few shots (IN THE CITY IN BROAD DAYLIGHT) , didnt hit him and he got away. Now if that was a bank robber, rapest or murderer i would agree with them but for a traffic infraction? If i was there with one of my kids in my car I would have one of those bloodsucker lawyers who advertise on daytime tv suing them.
And in all seriousness when is the last time anyone has heard of a car bike accident and thought those poor fellas in the suv, they didnt stand a chance. In R.I. it is an arrestable offence if you are caught speeding over 100mph and it is generally known that if you are going that fast on a bike you wouldnt stop ( I would stop since my life is worth more than a minor arrest and some fines) but almost every guy I ride with has done it and got away, this season its happened while I was riding with them. We have a pre determined meetup spot since some will stop and some wont. The only benefit the guys who stop are almost always left alone since the cops chase the ones who screw. Now I am NOT saying what they do is right in any way at all but in their mind they think if i stop I am getting arrested anyway so if I take off I have a really good chance of getting away. Thats fine and dandy for them but what about the drivers who are at risk of a police car taking them out over a SPEEDING violation? Like I said before a diddler, robber, rapest or murder I am all for it, the risk is worth the reward but for a speeder?
