Best Way to delete Straight pipes

so like the topic says I had deleted mufflers when I first bought the car because they were blown. After that I enjoyed the sound of the car
it was loud but still low pitch enough to not sound ricey.

after installing headers which came with a straight pipe for cat the car is ridiculously loud and the backfires drive me insane.

so whats the best way to get a little back pressure and some noise cancellation

would a magnaflow HF cat do the trick for me?

should I see about having two magnaflow mufflers installed instead?

Thanx guys

If you just have headers and completely straight pipe, I would suggest looking for a resonator of some kind (alot prefer a glasspack) and get a couple magnaflow mufflers and install them and see if you like it then

I don't even know if a cat will help with your raspyness you have now... I would put some sort of RES on it (normal one or a glasspack) and go from there. I'd be afraid that if you didn't like the sound of a glasspack that would be all you'd hear if you used it as a RES w/o mufflers. I had what the muffler called a "turbo tube" (fancy name they called their resonators) on my 90 GP and it toned my exhaust down a lot. It was about 18" long 5" round and it had three tubes in it to tone the exhaust down. It was not for sound really, but it gave the exhaust extra tubing to go through to calm down the muffler ping (raspy). It didn't do away with it 100%, but it helped A LOT.

the cat wont help quiet it at all really. so not really needed.

id put a 30 inch glass pack (the longest one you can fit) the glass pack will help kill the drone. and a muffler/ mufflers of your choice. like i said before lol

aight well I'll grab a glasspack and go from there I guess

I actually like the way the car sounded with just the cat on it and mufflers gone hopefully that will get me back to my decibel range

I think you just answered your question.... Get an magnaflow cat.

I was assuming the cat wouldn't help much since it's not adding pipe for the exhaust to go through. It is creating back pressure though.

Personally I would not buy anything without hearing video clips at least first... To each their own on sound. I personally wish I would have listened to more GP's before I impulse did what I did. I took the whole system off, bought a new downpipe (original broke at the flex point), then maganflow high flow cat, ubend delete, res delete, dumping into two blowmaster 40's I had sitting here... At idle my car sounds awesome, but that's about it. between 1500 - 2400 RPM's I have ping like a civic on crack. 2500 + it's not to bad when I'm on it, but I will NEVER take it on a long road trip because the drone at cruising speeds puts me to sleep. If I could go back, I would put two magnaflows on with some sort of RES to tone it down. Hell, if you want the best of both worlds, get you an electronic cut out, flip a switch and you have your open exhaust back.. I have one on my Firebird, LOVE IT!!!! LOL

a huge ass res/glass pack will help a ton with your drone.

its never to late in install a 25 dollar part if you ask me.

Oh I know... LOL I've just never gotten down to the muffler shop to do it.. I just like to ***** and whine about it!!!! ROFLMAO

If I had to do it again, and I didn't have emissions testing here I'd delete my rear O2 and put a cutout inplace of the cat keeping my stock catback... I like the looks I get in the Firebird when I open it up beside a ricer in traffic... LOL
