Best tire pressure

I've always inflated my tires according to the placard on the vehicle (in door opening). My tire guy recommends inflating 10+ pounds higher to get better gas mileage and less tire wear. What's everyone's opinion here? I know enough not to exceed the max pressure printed on the tire. Thanks and looking forward to others weighing in on this subject.
 


I'm currently running 40 all the way around, which is a little harsh on the backroads where I live. I'm doing it because the PO ran them with 20-25 and the outer edges wore faster, so I figured I'd wear the centers now.

I bet 36 would be about right. It does make a difference in mpg.

Not sure if it makes a difference in mpgs, but thats what my dad has told me to run them at. All of our cars are at 36 psi except for our jeep which is 38 psi. I think 33-36 is a good spot becuase the tire is then flat on the road and I think if its at 25-30 it will get worn down faster and 40+ is making the tire really hard.
 


IF your running stock size tires, what ever the cars manual or sticker says to run.

Over inflating can and will cause a tire to wear out prematurely. Never put max psi that tire says unless your car is fully loaded to its max weight limit.
 
I'm averaging 26-28mpg, I won't know for sure until I fill up & calculate, so highway must be 30 or better.

I bet it makes 2-3 mpg difference. If you take your car out with 25-30psi and find a flat section of road and let it coast, then do it again with 40psi, you'll see how much less resistance there is. I've gotten used to the 40 & like the mileage.

EDIT:

And yeah, you've got to check tire wear and adjust the pressure accordingly.
 
I run my car with kummos on them right at 38 all of the time. this way the tire is good and hard and im still getting good tire pressure without ruining the tire
