Bad CV Axle caused another issue?....

Ok, so I was on the highway heading home and intermittently my vehicle would start vibrating. So I tried diagnosing it a little while on the highway. When I would turn the wheel left nothing would happen, but when I would turn right it would make a small clunking sound.

I pull over off the exit to look at my vehicle - didn't have my tools on me. I turned the wheel all the way to the right to look behind the wheel to see if I saw anything and I noticed my CV boot was ripped to crap .....

I proceed to take off the wheel and I cut away the rest of the boot because it was kinda wrapped around the cv axle - wasn't protecting anything. Grease not even there any longer (its been raining like crazy lately).

Also, I grab the CV axle and it has SO MUCH play in it! Up, down, left AND right. Moves like no other.

Anyway, I put the wheel back on and tried moving the car. The vehicle wont move at all now..... Initially I thought maybe to just replace the cv axle (which i KNOW is needed) --- but the vehicle is making a noise when the car starts - as if its not really in park.

So i put it in park and let my foot off the break and it tries rolling back ( i was on a small decline)....

IDK what the issue is...not sure why the vehicle is still trying to move. And when I start the car its like its trying to move the CV axle or something 'cause i hear clunking sound (vehicle is in "park").

Can anyone help? What would a bad CV axle cause to go wrong? This stuff all happened like literally within 15 minutes of me knowing the issue.

If your boot was ripped and there was no grease in there it will wear pretty fast. I'd replace the axle and see if that takes care of your problem. When i start my car sometime is lurches a little bit so i think that's normal

But do you think the CV axle could cause the vehicle to not go in park?

What is the cv axle connected to on the transmission end?

Thank you for your help.

if your axle was broke it won't go into park it would be just like having the driveshaft out of a rwd.
