are wheel spacer good or bad?

My opinion on spacers is I do not like them. On top of that, running 1 1/2" or 2" wide spacers is just dumb and will make the car look stupid.
 


i had thoughts of selling my 18s and just running a set of 20-30mm spacers on my stock 17s for this year.

the spacers i'd need from adaptec are $65 each and i would not go with anything of less quality to do that. or i could convert to 5x114.3 and have vastly more wheels to choose from. either way, running spacers the right way is not cheap so factoring that in you could probably just find a set of wheels that are 'correct' for you.

Mustang wheels are NOT the wrong bolt pattern 5x114.3 IS 5x115

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH WHEEL SPACERS, They make adapters 1.5" thick to change the lug patterns.

I wouldn't do spacers on stock wheels...

LOL any aftermarket wheel marked as 5x115 is really 5x114.3. They don't even make wheel adapters for this conversion, if you really felt the need, you could run wobble lugs LOL, but I bet they don't even wobble.

One guy breaks a stud when running 5x114.3 because he over tightened his lugs and suddenly it is because he ran the wrong lug pattern.
 
I've been on 5x114.3 wheels on my grand prix for over 4 years with them coming on and off so many times, I've lost count. Not one broken stud, not one issue.

Ignorance is bliss I guess.
 
Yup over tighten lugs = biggest factor to broken studs. After all we have 5 for each wheel breaking one isn't going to exactly kill you instantly but I would replace ASAP. Unless your like Sandman and have a freak accident.

As it's been said, if installed correctly wheel spacers will not fail. On my old 99 Sierra I had 2.5" spacers on the front and 3.25" on the rear. Stock wheels would not fit with the spindles in the lift. If I could beat on the truck in the mud and off road and never lost them on a 8k lb truck, I wouldn't think on a car they would fail. Had 35x13.50/20 on a 6".

I have to find the thread, but if wheel spacers are installed properly, then they will not put stress on anything other than the usual parts that feel the same amount of stress as if you had no spacers.

this, provided you use quality parts. but why dump ~300 bucks into spacers when you can find a nice set of wheels for that off clist?
 
I've had spacers on two of my cars (1/2" on one and 1" on another). I removed them both and went with other wheel/tire options to get the look I was after. One of the issues I had was a slight vibration when I turned hard at low speeds (like navigating a parking garage). It went away when I removed the spacers. Interesting to note also that Discount Tire will not service a vehicle with spacers; I had to remove the things before they would install new tires this past fall.
