Anyone have the same front tire issues?

I have had excessive cupping on the outside of my front tires. About two months ago I had the dealer inspect the car and perform a 4-wheel alignment. At this time I put my outside cupped front tires on the rear and put my perfectly good rear tires upfront. After just 1,000-2,000 miles my tires went from having perfect wear to being cupped pretty badly on the outside. So that leads me to believe that it is not an alignment issue. My parents bought the car new in '03 and claim that the car has always done this, now that it is my car I want to resolve this issue. I check tire pressure on a weekly basis and have had alignments done regularly yet this still occurs!

Is this a common Grand Prix occurance? Any ideas on what might cause something like this?

Thanks

normal, hell no!

I have had tires 50K miles with perfect wear.

Something is certainly not right with your setup.

There are two main causes of cupping.

One is an inadequate suspension system. If your shocks are worn out and the tires are literally bouncing up and down as you drive down the road, every time they come down, they get scuffed, and that leads to cupping.

The other cause of cupping, is real cheap tires. For some reason, they seem to get cupped more often than better-quality rubber.

I've had some fun ones.

Feathering + chunks of tread bailing.

Replaced a fair amount of suspension and new tires....

sounds like you need new struts.

That's what I was thinking in the back of my head. Car has 80k so it wouldn't hurt to replace them anyhow.

FWI, I currently have General Altimax HP tires on the car which are supposed to be good tires, atleast their rating on tire rack is stellar. Before that I ran two sets of BFG's.

I vote for struts too. I have an 05 GT and at 70K the car just started to develop a little float in the suspension and it goes down hill from there. KYB GR2s went on real quick and took care of that. I would suggest the AGX for adjustability. I would have preferred the GR2s to be tighter but 05 and maybe 04 had the front stabilizer bar attach to the strut (versus the control arm) and KYB didn't bother making AGX for those GP years.

I see you have a WS6 so I can probably convince you into going for the adjustable AGXs for the GP.

super floppy sidewalls though.

This is true.

If the price is right I would consider. I have adjustable drag coilovers on the WS6 so I definitely can appreciate what adjustability offers. I'm half tempted to put some el cheapo struts on there for cost purposes but don't really want to have to go through this again in the future.
