• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Aluminum coolant elbow

So your saying that you have applied RTV "in front" of the o-rings (closest side to both the engine and pump)?

I put a little around the area where the o-ring is at on both side. Some will say user error but I'm not taking that chance on the third set of elbows. Both dorman sets failed at the o-rings. The first set on the lower elbow and the second set on the upper. I decided to go GM the third time and can see a difference in the o-ring sizes. The GM one's were thicker and bigger. It's just something to consider. Or get GM o-rings on these aluminum elbows.

Have any of you looked close into the holes? You might be surprised to see pits in the aluminum. I always use a little RTV.

Oooo shiny

Rockauto or orielys search by the part number it's in my pic. It's in the first few posts Eddie, stop being lazy lol.

Alright, look here.

RockAuto Parts Catalog

Why's my shiit still costing a fortune to ship????

And my elbows failed, once because o-rings. Second time the elbows literally cracked in half. So that can't be install error. Either way, the current set has enough rtv to seal your ass cheeks together.

Man! Thats still $5.87 less than they charged me!! These things weigh absolutely nothing! Damn you RockAuto!!

That said, I installed my Alum Elbows today after draining that "red stuff", flushing the system with distilled, and installing a new thermostat and gasket. Bled the system and everything went well. Thanks to all that helped me out with this matter. No more leak and no more smell of antifreeze after driving. Great info Scotty, Mad Monkey, The Gus, Brandon, Bill, and anyone else who gave me advice. :th_thumbsup-wink:

Glad to hear it worked out well.

I refuse to pay these high ass prices, they're GONNA come down on it and I'm gonna email them tonight. "Dear sir/madam, :), YO PRICES BE WRONG!"

being i just changed my elbows not so long ago, i'll just wait till they come to the local parts stores, wont be long. they just aint that special to me. ill use them when i need them.

Being that I'm heading down to Millville, NJ this weekend for the AMA Races, I wanted to make sure that the car was road ready, otherwise I would have waited myself. Once I saw that there was a chance of rain I didn't want to ride the bike the 2-1/2 hours on the Turnpike, cause the only thing worse than riding a motorcycle on the Turnpike is riding a motorcycle in the rain on the turnpike. LOL. Now we'll be comfy and dry for the ride down and back without leaky elbows to worry about. My next job is the front struts which I'll change after vacation.
