air to air intercooler

does anyone ever do an air to air intercooler on these cars? i know it really doesnt seem effective because the s/c heats it up but i was just wondering if anyones done this before
 


I think it would be very difficult to flow enough air through that tiny heat exchanger underneath the SC. I've never heard of anyone doing it but who knows...some people are crazy like that.
 
The Aussies have one, not worth it though IMO. W2A is a much easier setup on these cars, especially with a blower.
 
See, I was right...people are crazy!

It's easy with a CSC, just like the turbo charger intercooler.
 


W2A is more efficient and they sell it already. dont waste your time.

i'd also love it if you used the search feature, but apparently that isn't your strong suit.
 
I know people say water to air is way better, im not saying thats false. But I do think it would be cool if someone tried an air to air just to see what gains really can be had.

Think about it. An A2A IC would be like an overpriced intake. You are only cooling the air before it hits the blower. Where as a W2A setup is cooling after the blower. Seems more logical to do it after the air has been compressed.

Nah, it would cool the air after the blower. Search for a picture of a Ford Thunderbird Supercoupe engine bay. In the case of that car the charge is pushed out through the top of the blower, to the front of the car and then back to the engine. To me it makes no sense to do this unless water to air isn't feasible. It's like saying, "why not put a smaller supercharger on the engine just to see what the gains would be". In this case we already know the air to air would be less efficient while introducing other issues such as MAF placement and a delay in throttle response. Both are addressable but again, why bother? You know?
 
I would bet the A2A unit is better than any W2A unit available.

Water cores simply don't contact the intake airstream for a long enough time duration to cool to ambient. Not too mention the loss of effiency converting heat from air, to water, and back to air at the FMIC. Luls.

Its first law thermodynamic energy balance to compare the two systems. Water can hold 4.18J/g*K roughly though.

However, there would be lag using A2A because of the volume needed to be pressurized.

Seems like there would be "supercharger lag" with this setup. Why not just turbocharge it? Lot cheaper and less parasitic.

You can buy that chit for cheap on ebay. Just that the blower is upside-down. Seriously, they should have incorporated this stock on the GTP.

There was an A/W................. GM didn't like the power it made.

And I'm sure the guys responsible for the trans didn't like it either.
 
so this is a little off topic but could i just make my own A2W IC buy the core from zzp but some heat exchanger and a pump put it all together you know what i mean?
