Adding Bose to my 98 Se Please help??

hey, first time starting a thread on here. did alot of research and came up with nothing for my problem.
i have a 98 SE
i bought a 99 GT parts car

the 99 came with bose speakers and amp.
the 98 came with base delco speakers

i want to take the bose stereo entirely and put it in my 98, for all the speakers, and the amp.

i have a dual headunit, an alpine 2 channel amp for the subs, 2 infinity 10's subs, and stock speakers. i heard the bose speakers work they sound great, but the headunits back light is messed up or something so theres no screen, plus i like my headunit and exsisting stereo, just not the speakers.
i also have a sony 10 disc changer that came with the 99, i want to add to my 98.
so what i need help with is
-besides under the speaker panel in the trunk, where is a good place to mount the cd changer?
-how can i wire the bose amp and speakers into my car? is there anyway to use the existing harness to wire it up? do i have to custom wire it? and does anyone have a pinout for the amp?

Man that sounds like a nightmare. You'll prolly need to remove the entire bose harness that goes throughout the car. Then you will need to buy the bose adapter for the aftermarket radio. I guess if you can find the pinouts ( I wasnt able to ) you could run your own lines...( you will still need the bose adapter for the deck ) but that seems like way more trouble than its worth. You could just run the bose speakers of your aftermarket deck.
 
yah seems like a mess, i just dont know what all is tied into that harness, i know the tail lights are, the trunk release, antenna, speakers, defroster, fuel pump, etc, its crazy lol, but i dunno if the bose speakers would sound that good without the amp? my speakers now are okay, i just want more out of the system

btw i wanted to ask you, how did you get the blue in the d.i.c.? thats crazy man! can you do that with the buttons on there too? and other switches? my head units blue and i want blue neons under the dash for the floor but that would fight the red alot. i want it to blend yah know?
 
Hrmmm. Where to begin?

Let's start with your head unit. Bose isn't bose without the matching head unit. They have built in EQ curves that change with the volume knob. Essentially, they add their own low level signal processor specific to the vehicle installation. So you should do everything you can to maintain that.

HOWEVER!!! Most people never notice a difference when they swap head units anyways :) It's generally accepted that if it sounds different it MUST be better :D

Therefore, if you swap out the head unit and utilize their $4 speakers with good results...then just keep on truckin!

So let's figure out the basic install first and then we can move into disc changers, etc.
 
If you want to improve your sound ditch the Dual HU and stock speakers and upgrade to something better, not the Bose system either , way to much of a headache to install.

Indirectly, I think that was the intention of posting the question. In general I think he's wanting an idea on what is considered an "upgrade". There's nothing wrong with Dual if he enjoys the resulting sound
 
i put bose speakers and hu out of my parts car into my my car and it sounds a lot better but that might be because some of my speakers were blown lol
 
I'm just wondering why you want that Bose garbage. Sure it's good for stock, but if you're gonna be swapping stuff out you might wanna shop around for something better. Believe it or not, Bose isn't the end all be all as they lead people to believe.

thanks everyone for replys and opinions. at this point yes i am happy with my dual head unit, it puts out great sound, and the speakers and the head unit can handle full volume, but i dont like messing with the eq. to put the volume all the way up i have to put the bass on -2 and the treble on +3 or +4, then you can hear it from a great distance and its pretty clear in the car. on the parts car with the bose, i got a good station on the radio (with no lcd screen) and turned it up all the way, and it really satisfied me. i liked how it sounded and adding my subs would really make the deal. i know its not a high end stereo system.... but yes, ITS FREE. i dont mind the headache, i mean this car so far needed a new front bumper, new rear bumper, new FULL exausted, rocker panels, side skirts, new seats, new wheels, new ball joints, new wheel bearings, new breaks, new blower motor, adding hud and dic, new valve cover gaskets, new starter, new stereo, new tail lights, head lights, alot of bulbs, oil change, i mean i can keep going on and on, and 80% of that list there is DONE, i have alot of work into this car, and wouldnt mind adding some wires and what not, but my problem is the lack of the wiring pin out for the bose amp, and where the harness goes that runs up the drivers side floor and what is all tied into it really? and where does it lead? those questions are still unanswered, and thats my whole problem, thank you guys for your feedback, but i just need some technical help of how to do this or some questions answered. im not trying to have attitude or be a d***head but im just trying to pull off this mod. i would really enjoy the bose, i know there not the besttt but they are good.

Personally I would sell all the Bose stuff and get some cheap aftermarket speakers with that money. They would sound better and be much easier to install.
 
good idea but wuldnt someone want the wiring too? cuz that would be key to install the complete system/upgrade. if i knew where all the wires led to from the amp, and how much of a p.i.t.a. it is to take out, and hook up, then i would be able to sell them easier, or just use them myself. from past experience with aftermarket speakers ive been let down alot. cheap speakers avail. at my stores out here would be vr3 and boss and i hate vr3's quality, they dont last and sound good. boss is okay i hear, but havent bought anything from them. besides them, the good names like sony and alpine and so on are quite expensive. i just like they way the bose sounds and would be satisfied, just need some info on them, at least how to get the harness out or some pinouts so i know what wires can be cut, where they go to and so on.

Fixed. A lot of the sound systems Bose makes for foreign car companies are actually pretty decent for stock. For GM, however, it's just a name slapped on a practically unaltered system. For all the hassle you're going to go through, it will make next to no improvement in overall sound quality.

I'm with Confusingboat. I say sell the speakers and HU for whatever you can. Don't worry about the wiring. There's practically 0 market for converting to Bose since most people feel it's junk/not worth it. The buyer(s) will most likely be looking to replace a busted HU/speakers, so the wiring most likely won't be needed. Take the money you get, and put it towards some half way decent aftermarket speakers. If you shop around a bit, you can find a good deal on decent new speakers. Or keep a look out in the For Sale section here for good deals on decent used, good condition audio equipment.

What is expensive to you? For me, I think $50 for a set of speakers would be cheap, and that's the Alpine range. This is one of those things where you get what you pay for -- if you spend $20 on a pair of speakers, don't expect them to be very good. Also, I wouldn't buy Sony, but my friend has them and they sound pretty decent for what they are, though I'd still recommend Alpine over them.

P.S. Don't try to make a frankensystem out of some of your Bose stuff (this means the amp too) because it's all proprietary and tuned for the stock setup afaik.
 
I thought about the Bose amp. I saw all the wires to it and chucked back into the car. I do have the four Bose speakers in the back and they are a 5 outta 10 (Better then stock) I have been asked if I had subs by some nubes cuz they do have nice lows on some songs. i rate them that low cuz without the amp it's not crisp sounding until I have the high turned up all the way and I can't stand that then.
 


The problem I have with the bose system aside from the fact that its rather terrible. The highs aren't very clear, and the lows sound good for a while but you never get good midbass upfront with the bose amp because it bypasses the front channels and outputs the low notes from the front channels onto the rear 6x9's this makes fading with an aftermarket deck only kind-of work, you can only fade out the high notes from the back. Basically you wind up having 3 way components with the woofers in the back and the mids and tweets in your doors. It sounds like a good idea and it is for stock especially if you have no sub. In that situation it sounds great and people ask if the car has a sub when I have my sub turned of. However its not comparison to a true sub. Ohh also the wattage the bose amp puts out is actually less wattage than my stereo puts out into the amp.
