And can you produce the same arguments against stability control?

Because they're becoming one in the same with electronic brake force distribution all tucked in your ABS module.
 


You have to be going VERY VERY fast to get flat spots. I basically emergency stopped from 60 to avoid a herd of deer in my Stealth, locking all 4 tires up in the process and didn't get even a hint of flat spots.

Never driven a car with stability control so I have no argument one way or the other with it. I know what is PROVEN for ABS though.
 
your vid proves the car that spun out, well the driver cant drive at all. he locked the brakes and went for a ride, thats not how you stop with a non abs car on wet roads. or even a hydro planning ordeal.

your talking to someone with over 1 million miles under his belt. I know how to drive, and stop any car or truck im driving. snow and abs is the worst combo out there, ever, it flat out sucks a dick.
 
you wont get flat spot in the rain, thats for sure. but point is your not supposed to lock the bakes. your supposed to pump them if they lock, so they roll free, then you re apply the brakes as needed, they lock, you pump them again. this way you can also still steer the car, locked up tires take that steering away from you.

abs is simulated brake pumping, done for you, cause the government thinks we are all dumb or some crap.
 
Man you guys must drive crazy. Not once in my life have I even got to abs kicking in. And yes I've driven in snow. There's quite a bit in Iowa in the winter actually. Lots of deer too. So lol idk what you guys are doing. My impala doesnt have abs factory and I see no problems. If someone wants to disable abs because they know how to brake without it, then good on them. If they don't know it's really to their own demise. In all reality, 95% or more of the time abs is a big plus. Almost everyone will just slam on the brakes in emergency situations. Even lots of people that say they know how to do it right will too. It's just a natural reaction. So it really comes down to your driving and knowledge. Most of the time abs is better, some of you are exceptions.
Pretty sure this post solves all the arguments lol. You guys are arguing over nothing. Because no one is right or wrong for themselves.
Some like it. Some don't. I think we all got that.


I personally like vanilla pudding over chocolate. But I hate tapioca. Had some strawberry banana pudding the other day. That sh!t was delicious.

very heavy and filling to. ive eaten that whole tube in one sitting too. lol its that good.

also comes with raisins, called french rice pudding, iirc not a fan of that one.
 
Ok, I will agree that the idea behind ABS was a good one.

ABS works by detecting a wheel locking up. (could only be one) in response to that one lock up all four brakes are relieved of pressure to allow the wheel that was sliding to begin turning again. Lets assume that one front tire is sliding, and assume 75% of braking is coming from front tires, we are left with a car with 62.5% braking (if its a rear tire then even less force will be lost) vs ABS that releases the brakes and spends more time off the brakes then on leaving you with even less braking force being applied. This is why your braking distance will increase with ABS active.

In response to F-body brakes allowing you to stop faster... THIS IS BUL$&@#$ Better brakes would actually cause you to lock up the tires easier! This is cause you would have more brake force available. If your experience is you can get on the brakes harder before your ABS activates its is more likely the calipers are either less effective or you have crappier pads that aren't even equal to your old brakes.

To prevent ABS from triggering you need to increase the amount of available traction. IE Better and or wider tires. I run 245 wide performance tires and they make one heck of an improvement in stopping.

I have had some situations that have gone both ways with ABS. around town in straight lines ABS will get you into an accident. PERIOD! at highway speeds or in turns ABS can help you from loosing control of the car. this is a good reason for stability control.

Now on high performance cars the ABS systems they have are better designed and do help stopping distance. But on most cars ABS plain sucks.

i can tell you first hand up grading to F body brakes make the car stop way faster on dry pavement. i can nail my brakes as hard as i want, at any speed. no abs kicks in at all. it stops on a dime, then hands back change. that much of a difference over the stock crap. and im running stock 16 inch tires size.

even in the rain ive yet to make the abs kick in, damn car just flat out stops!

you also need less brake pedal force under normal driving. i hit my brakes pretty lighting to come to a red light or stop sign, the stock brakes just have no bite. and they were all new at one time. sucked from new.

and the speed sensor in the HUB, cares not what brakes you use. as long as they dont lock up, the pedal wont pulse under your foot.
 




I'll weigh in on this one. On my '97, the ABS turns my car into a runaway bobsled on ice. When it "engages", the attempted pulses are long and slow - not so great in an attempted low-speed stop on a slippery surface. With the '97's primitive ABS system, I've managed better control in adverse weather with mine disabled. I pull my fuse during the winter months, but plug it back in when icing is no longer a concern.

I've felt abs in others cars. Didn't seem slow at all. Actually the pulsing was pretty rapid.
I can't believe I've never tried that pudding! Especially with how common rice is here. I'm gonna have to look for it in the store

That's exactly what I have been saying. One ice/snow ABS will basically cause the car to slide and there is no controlling when you will actually stop.
 
On my 40th anniv GP, I have F-body brakes in the front and GXP brakes in back. Ever since I installed the bigger brakes and had to press on the brake pedal hard enough to lock the brakes and have the ABS kick in, I noticed noise and vibrations that I did not like. ABS did not assist me in making me stop my car better. I don't want anything working my brakes to help me stop faster. I have make panic stops with ABS and I slid out of control. I have never liked ABS in any vehicle I have driven.
I drove a 1983 Old Toronado well over 200k miles and never had a problem stopping that tank of a car. No ABS in that old car.
I disabled the ABS and have been driving without it for 90,000 miles in my 40th anniv GP without any more issues in making a panic stop. I have complete control over the car and don't have to rely on the ABS system to help me stop the car. Good 18" tires of course help in stopping the car.
All this talk about ABS being necessary to help you stop faster with more control is not correct. ABS may indeed help in a completely stock setup, but with oversized brakes and tires, it is not needed.
And what is all this talk about being held liable in an accident if it is determined that you have disabled your ABS system? And face fines? I have run this by people who have been in the auto industry all their lives and they have never heard of this happening.
