mmmm....rice pudding...in a thread that died almost a year and a half ago...
On my 40th anniv GP, I have F-body brakes in the front and GXP brakes in back. Ever since I installed the bigger brakes and had to press on the brake pedal hard enough to lock the brakes and have the ABS kick in, I noticed noise and vibrations that I did not like. ABS did not assist me in making me stop my car better. I don't want anything working my brakes to help me stop faster. I have make panic stops with ABS and I slid out of control. I have never liked ABS in any vehicle I have driven.
I drove a 1983 Old Toronado well over 200k miles and never had a problem stopping that tank of a car. No ABS in that old car.
I disabled the ABS and have been driving without it for 90,000 miles in my 40th anniv GP without any more issues in making a panic stop. I have complete control over the car and don't have to rely on the ABS system to help me stop the car. Good 18" tires of course help in stopping the car.
All this talk about ABS being necessary to help you stop faster with more control is not correct. ABS may indeed help in a completely stock setup, but with oversized brakes and tires, it is not needed.
And what is all this talk about being held liable in an accident if it is determined that you have disabled your ABS system? And face fines? I have run this by people who have been in the auto industry all their lives and they have never heard of this happening.
