ABS Delete

Airbags don't affect driving. They affect lives. If these things were useless and didnt serve a purpose car makers wouldn't waste time putting them in. Name one new car that doesn't have ABS...

Removing ABS is just cutting corners and being lazy and cheap instead of fixing the car properly with quality parts. I had to replace all 4 hubs when I got my grand prix. Granted it cost me 400 for the parts, I bought quality parts and know that I won't have issues with them. ABS has come in handy way more times than iI can count and you'll see how much you miss it when you actually need it.

Scotty, the two times ABS screwed me the most, I was going LESS than 10 mph and barely tapped the brakes. I've drove non ABS equipped cars for 13 years before I got the GP and NEVER had the issues I have experienced with non ABS that I have with ABS.

Disabling ABS is not going to make your car any less safe unless a complete moron is behind the wheel. If the driver knows what they are doing non ABS gives them more control.

i hear ya, im not kid, ive only been driving cars with abs since 97 my self. its a learning curve for sure, i hatted my 97 gmc when snow plowing, till i figured out how to use the brakes.

what i found out, is if the abs kicks in, get off the brake, then back on them fast. but not as hard. the trick is to use as much brake as you can with out it kicking in. ( in snow) pumping the brakes still works too. you know how we stopped before abs.

i kid you not, f bodys made a huge difference. under all road conditions.

to the OP, just buy some hubs. if the abs light is on now most of the time its because the hub is moving. aka shot bearing. so your brakes will start to suck all around any way. calipers dont like a rotor that moves side to side. it cant clamp and hold well at all. my brakes went to crap when each of my front hubs went bad. and the car dont roll right down the road either with bad hubs, and yes it can and will fall off if left unattended.

dont be a cheap skate, buy some parts, and put them in.

You're obivously not understanding what I am saying. Airbags are a SECONDARY restraint. Wear your seatbelt and it doesn't matter if you have an airbag.

ABS is only equipped on about 55% of new cars. You read that right 55%. Also NHSTA won't mandate ABS because "This was done because the real world crash avoidance performance of these systems appears to be below expectations." They are basically saying, ABS isn't what it is cracked up to be.

Don't beleive me? Read the link. Light Vehicle Brake Systems | National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)

You want another link that shows ABS sucks? Killer ABS | The Truth About Cars

There are 04+ Grand Prixs that do not have ABS from the factory.

And my ABS has "working" components, so its not about cutting corners and being lazy, its about me feeling safer because ABS SUCKS.

I've driven cars with and without ABS don't see much difference but then again I drive my abs car like scottydogs was saying to do, out of habit, it just feels wrong to lock up those wheels like that something instinctively makes me back off

If you can't control your ABS, it is your fault. Plain and simple. You will never see a scenario where ABS engaging is worse than sliding through an intersection into oncoming traffic. That is just stupid.

ABS doesn't decrease stopping distance. It is supposed to make the car more controllable. ABS INCREASES stopping distance on ice, snow, and loose gravel.

only if you let it kick in.

but i know exactly what your talking about. whats the point of being able to steer if you cant slow down fast enough still. its a helpless feeling for sure.

and most dont even try to avoid the crash, they hold the pedal to the floor and lock up, (the driver that is) theres is none of this is going to be ok feeling.

Like I said already there was no "letting" it kick in for the two times it screwed me the most. Both times, going down a hill, both times going LESS THAN 10 mph, both times TAPPED the brakes, both times car takes off and wont stop for sh!t. The car literally went FASTER once I tapped the brakes. Being able to steer doesn't mean jack sh!t if you aren't slowing down.

I've driven in adverse weather conditions with non ABS cars and never had a stopping distance be so long as what it is when ABS kicks in.

Your argument is only true for certain circumstances not applicable to all drivers. I've seen the effects of ABS in every road condition first hand and I have never felt in danger.

You are flat out WRONG. ABS was never intended to make stopping distances shorter. It's ONLY purpose is to be able to steer in a "slide".

Even if ABS is required to installed by the manufacturer, does not mean it is illegal to disable. That still doesn't change the fact that ABS doesn't decrease stopping distances in normal circumstances, and increases stopping distances on snow, ice, and gravel.

i had that problem with bad tires in the snow. got new tires, not as bad, it can still happen. i know what your talking about to the fullest.

nothing worse then just being along for the ride.

some how im sure you never drove a car form the 70's. even if you locked the front wheels up on wet pavement you out stop abs today on most cars.
