Abandoned Grand Prix?

Hey guys Im new to this site. Ive always wanted a 97-03 Grand Prix and my uncle's next door neighbor just parked his 01-02 grand prix in his backyard and hasnt used it in about a year. When my uncle moved in in 1995, the neighbor also had a 89 Grand Prix that sat untouched, and also a Trans sport. He donated both of them last year to charity, after sitting for atleast 10 yeas. Now, since he got a new SUV, he parked his 01-02 GP. Forseeing that this thing is just gonna grow roots, I want to try to get it from him, and I need all your help.

The car is either an 01 or 02 GT, 3.8 N/A, red 2 door, with cloth interior and a sunroof. The body is in immaculate shape with no rust, dings or anything. The headlights are still clear! The tires look original, so im hoping it has less than 80k miles on it. The guy is kind of a jerk from what ive heard, so I want to play this safe.

How do I go about approaching this guy about the car? I would be willing to pay him up to a few thousand for it, since I wanted to buy one anyway, but paying very little would be nice as well. Im a college student, so spending less is a good thing, but like I said Id pay more if need be.

If I hear it run, what should I look out for? Where does rust hide, engine problems, etc.

And most important, how can I persuade this guy to sell/give it to me?

Thanks for any help. I really want to save this thing before its too late.

get it in the air and look underneath the GP by the side skirts haha i made this mistake but i love my gtp ha

only places i have seen rust, are on the rocker panels, below the back doors on sedans, and just behind the doors on coupes, thats where it always starts. but if the headlights aren't oxidized over yet, i wouldn't worry about rust.

like was stated, bluebook it, New Cars, Used Cars, Blue Book Prices & Car Values - Official Kelley Blue Book Site is a good site, and make a low offer. i would say 3-4k is probably what its worth. thats about were most 01-03 GPs end up. although, some do go for quite a bit more, so be prepared for him asking 6k.

Thanks guys. Im hoping I can pick this thing up for cheap. I will defiantly check for rust before I offer a price though.
