A question to members based on curiosity.

Just curious to see what your guys' opinions would be because, after being a member for not too long, we would see posts about new people asking the usual same or smiliar questions about their grand prix. If its fixing it, or how to fix this or what kind of part should i use, so now im gonna ask those who already know what they are doing, and would not change their mind here or there.

...If you just bought a fair conditioned Grand Prix GTP....
Now assume the condition the car is in, it needs new hoses, or paint is gone, the usual stuff.
...and you have..roughly 2 grand to spend on it...what would it be?
Look i know there will be very similiar answers but, everyones preference or goal is different. Like e.g. buying a new sound system, changing the pulley, or repainting it, or putting this or that, getting a new ecu.

My answer would be to replace the lim gasket, new plugs and wires, new alternator, new coolant elbows, new ram air hood, new exhaust. That would be about less than 2 grand but im just saying for example. i hope you guys get what im asking. thanks! Im not put in this situation, im just wondering.

$2000 worth of spare engines...cause I tend to go through them...

But in all seriousness... LIM, Ported S/C, Headers, Pulley drop, tune....Then either a set of rims/tires, or fixing any body damage/paint stuffs.

I like the I drive a pos but it's fast look so i'd put it all into go fast parts. P&P sc, lim, heads, headers, Cam, Full size ic, 2.8 ish pulley, and a good tune.

Well, seeing as i've acquired all my 3800's for way below bottom dollar, I feel i'm qualified to answer your questions.

Have the car checked out by your local GM dealer, or if you know one, a former GM tech (No, seriously, do it.) Worry about cosmetics or sound LAST.

After you get the laundry list of to do's, prioritize them. Any parts that make your car roll, run, or stop...put at the top of that list. Knocking out deferred maintenance is quite possibly the most immediately noticable of things you can do that will add power and life back into your car.

Hopefully by now, you've gotten the car tuned up and running, rolling, and stopping at stock levels or better. If you have money left over, and you want to go the way of performance...Pick up some headers off ebay or used from a member off the various GP forums. These will free up more pent up power than any initial mod on your stock car, Especially if you're Supercharged. Next is Cold air, Make your own intake or purchase one from one of the many 3800 vendors.

Where you go after these mods is up to you, Just remember to get some scans before even thinking of touching the pulley (If you're supercharged.)

Happy driving! :)

Used mod parts, do they give about just the same amount as it was new? Of course the new ones are better but is there good amount of lost power from used mods, basically depending what condition?

a 2.8' pulley? we have 3.4 right?

Lost power from used mods? Say what? YOu are going to get the same amount of power from used headers as you do from new ones. The used ones just wont be all nice and shiney.

oh okay!for some reason i thought about 3.4 for a second. my Gtp is sitting in the rain, my uncle hasnt found the pink slip yet and he has a guy that will hook us with a smog. and has a cylinder misfire. waiting..."/
