A good 225 60 16 tire for $ 100?

So, I took all the recommended tires and ran them through Tirerack and most of the main tire chain company websites for reviews and surveys.

After reading to much info I came down to the Altimax HP's and Cooper CS4's.

With out a doubt the General Altimax's faired better than the CS4's. I noticed there was a lot of bashing on the Altimax tires?
To be fair Altimax had many more reviewers thans the CS4's, but I think that would make it an easier decision.

Altimax rates lower when it comes to snow, but snow is not really much of a factor when it comes to my location. If snow was a factor the CS4's may be a better bet for me. Their were a significant amount of reviews that were not favorable when it came to wet traction on the CS4's, whether its viable is every ones personal opinion.

Like I stated in my original post, I currently have Goodyear Eagle LS's and they rate very poor on Tirerack.com. Now the CS4 ratings don't exist on tirerack, but the Altimax HP's do and come across very good considering my driving conditions and price range. I did review the CS4's as much as possible by reading other sites and reviews!

Most of my miles are accumulated going to work and I encounter a lot of 25 mph curves due to the mountains.

One of the big tire shops that's owned by an older guy, that's been here his whole life, said regardless of the tire you get, most of them are only good for about 30k due to our driving conditions.

I can get 4 CS4's out the door for $480 and 4 Altimax HP's SL for $420.

At this point I am finding it hard not to go for the Altimax HP's due to all the info I posted above.

Persuade me that I am wrong?
 
i sold tires for 2 years and never had the altimax line make mileage and i have the cs4s and they are fine in wet IMO i have also put them on both of my grandparents cars and my dads car no issues i have put them on 1000s of other cars only negative think i have heard is a slight noise in the morning(when cold).....i would advise atleast a H thos for a little support and its a 5 row tread design which is better for wet traction vs the T rate 4 row design

Cooper, General, Kuhmo, Bridgestone, all decent tires. Sure someones always gonna have an opinion that they don't like them. I've run Kuhmo, Sumitomo, Bridgestones, Generals, Goodrich, etc on my GTP daily driver over the years and all have been more than sufficient. I actually get the best mileage out of the Sumi's. I was in the tire biz for seven years, don't pay for a name. If you knew how many private labels were built in the same plant as the big names you'd be surprised. Example, the Hood SR tires back in the 90's were built using the same casing as the BF Goodrich Euro T/A, they had a different tread design, handled great, and got better mileage, the tires were 30 bucks cheaper a piece.

amen.............oh and look at the kuhmo kr21 or kh16 not a bad tire
 
Well after further review I have decided to go with the General Altimax hp tires. I know there have been some posts that mock these tires in this thread and I totally respect that. I'd like to believe I am an average driver if not less intrusive when it comes to testing my tires everyday. I was able to pick them up on sale for $88 with $10 for mounting and balancing. As far as the CS4's, They come across as a good tire, but as far as an overall review for my driving conditions they fall short (VS the Altimax) on analysis.

Now that I have also fixed my ignition switch, it is on to figuring out why my reverse lights have gone on a hiatus. People say its a switch on top of the Transmission, but I need to do a little more research. No reverse lights whatsoever!
