• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

99 Regal GS Build

if your talking about the plug for the ic pump, dont bother getting one, its a pos, cant trust it. i cut the plastic back on the pump and soldered the wires right to the tabs, no failures since.

the starting other then making sure its all plugged in right, and the plug wires are on right. and the grounds are on and tight.

From ZZP? Well ****, what am I supposed to do with this connector thats on the truck right now? :th_laugh-lol2: Oh well I'll just hag onto it lol. It's not worth the shipping to return it.

I already double checked the spark plug wires, and confirmed the motor has ground. Maybe I'll have to double check that ground by the ICM when I get back out there tomorrow or Friday.

dont trust it. i have a res tank so its easy enough to see if its working, hearing it or touching it is hard cause its in the bumper.

i used a torch so it got a little melted looking, on the up side, its been working all the time now.

Well I got the compression tester today and.... No compression on 3 or 5.

So, the motors back out of the car on the cradlewith the oil pan, power steering pump, and coolant elbow/alternator/whatever its called assembly off. I'll be picking up a puller for the harmonic balancer tomorrow and then I can see what the timing chain and sprockets look like.

ebay or the dealer, ebay ia like 10 bucks but you need to a old key so you can cut the ebay key, dealer can cut it from your vin #.

you need to ohm the key, tabs to both metal parts on the security chip in the key, pick your ohm range and order said key.

Sorry Scotty I meant the keyway that goes in the crankshaft. But luckily I was able to salvage the old one. Apparently soommmeeebody (me) didn't line up the slot on the harmonic balancer with the the keyway in the crankshaft and drove it on with an impact, forcing the keyway backwards and upwards, cracking the crank sprocket.

Oh well, I guess that's what I get for trying to rush it. Motors back together and ready to go back in, might get it running by Thursday night as long as there's no more problems.

I didn't get any pictures of the harmoni balancer or the keyway, but I'll post a picture of the old crank sprocket with the crack when I'm not on my phone.

And then on monday, I had a small fire. It was pretty windy that day and somehow as I was walking by with a cigarette, an ember must have blown in there and caught some residual fuel or something. Burned right through the braided stainless steel brake line. Doesn't seem to be any other damage besides that though. I guess it's time to buy a fire extinguisher just in case.

Couldn't find anywhere that could crimp on a new flexible end, and it seems that nowhere but the dealership sells it, so heres the new one from the dealer:

We waited until we had the new brake line to put the motor in, as it'll be that much easier with it out. But I've got a good chunk of the day to work tomorrow, so at the very least the motor will be in the car and mostly everything all hooked up, but I'm shooting for a car that starts by the end of tomorrow night.

How much was that line? I had to replace the same one recently, but I went with regular line and it looks odd under the hood. I'd like to replace it with stock if it's cheap enough to rationalize actually doing it

Shop around at the dealerships. First one I called told me $95, second one said it listed for $95 but they'd give it to me for $72 or something like that. Ended up being $76 or so after tax.

I would've gone with regular line, but that line gets a lot of movement from the passenger wheel and the ABS unit, so it needs to have a flexible end somewhere

Car officially runs!! I still need to cut off the tab off the fuel pump relay, but once that's done it should actually stay running without me having to use HP Tuners to keep "fuel pump high" on.

Question: will excessive fueling or an incomplete exhaust cause back firing? I'm sure the tune needs some work, but I don't know what I'm doing with tunes yet, I need to look through all the info on here.

Also, what's the procedure for using hp Tuners for a CASE learn?

Snapped the timing chain... at least. Anybody looking to sell a double roller, let me know. Until then, looks like she'll be on hold for a while.
