99 Regal GS Build

Lol, the cradle spacers will probably work, but you still might have to cut some of the inside framework on the hood, and you might need to shim the hood up a little higher.

I probably should have you change my name because my real name is Marshal, I use johntremell as a user name for a lot of accounts.

Whatever Jane Doe... lol

You know.. you could scrap the idea of a Regal and go straight to Bonneville. There is so much more room. Especially the 96-99 ones. Just saying.

Everything fits under the hood

But then I would have to deal with having an ugly car :p Haha I'm just kidding. I've personally just never liked the looks of the bonnies.. though the 96-99 ones look alot better than the newer style IMO.

But this regal's shown me a lot of love and gotten me through quite a few road trips, including cross country and back. So I guess now I need to show it some love back. Plus, I've probably already spent upwards of $200 just on undercoating this car.

Anyways, got a little more done this weekend, but not as much as I was hoping.

And huge hole in the middle. This sheet metal seriously just feels like paper.

Al rear bumper I snagged from a caddy

Freshly painted struts (because the rears were already rusty after this terrible winter and I wanted the fronts to match in color), and a brand new addco rear swaybar

Engine bay with a freshly painted booster (that epoxy paint is awesome!), ABS module, battery tray, and strut tower brace installed with all taping finally pulled off.

Oh and the bumper's on temporarily so we can mock up the FMHE. I don't want it hanging super low, so we're thinking we're going to bend the tabs on the side of the rad support outward rather than notching the bumper.

XCvLZiWl.jpg

Super rusty horns that need to be cleaned and painted still. (Probably overkill but I think I'd eventually be pissed at myself if I left it this way after doing so much)

New pump from racetronix

Old pump... something doesn't match up here :th_angry2: After talking to racetronix, the reason this doesn't match up is because I put a crappy airtex pump in about a year ago when the stocker crapped out, airtex changed the design, and they offer nothing that'll fit this design.

So I guess my plan is to just go to the junkyard and grab the bottom of a stock canister.. What do you guys think? Does anyone have a picture of the bottom of a stock canister?

Ok, so its been a long ass time, but I finally found some time between work and school. This project is taking way too long :th_shakinghead2:

So as far as progress..
I've finally gotten the fuel tank in and the pump sorted out.

I picked up an aluminum front bumper and rear bumper, and have the front bumper mocked up.

The trunk has been all patched up with some welding and a touch of bondo.

I've decided I'm going to relocate to the battery to the trunk, as I need room for my double bypass oil filter/relocator from amsoil.

I need to get a couple new coolant reservoirs still, as I want to replace the stock plastic one and I need one for the intercooler.

All the accessories are finally bolted up on the motor, and the serpentine belt is on.

We have also started tearing apart the wiring harness so we can tuck it and make the engine bay all purty.

The rear struts and rear strut tower bar are also installed.

That's all I can think of for now..

I know I know.. not enough pictures. I'll snap some more next time I get out there.. which doesn't look like it'll be for a while since I'm scheduled for 85ish hours the next two weeks.

the rear strut tower brace mod is probably one of the most neglected mods out there. nice work. people don't realize how much it actually helps

God it kills me to see how much rust you folks up north have to deal with. Not to mention the amount of money to deal with said rust on ya cars. For me, I’m allergic to snow, it makes me shake.

SgtMarshal - Thanks! I'm doing every worthwhile suspension mod I can think of, besides crazy expensive ones like coilovers or the tubular lower control arms.

TexasSAGP - No kidding. My goal is for the car to be rust proof when I'm done, that's why EVERYTHING got the rust ground off and painted, and aluminum where it was sensible. I'd estimate I've spent somewhere around $500 just on undercoating and paint alone, and thats not including the ridiculous amount of grinding wheels, wire wheels, etc. we've gone through. With that said, I freaking love the snow haha. I might be a little sadistic :p

Bill, I think so.. not entirely sure what you did. I didn't lower it though because I like the stock height.

Anyways, I got front swaybar and poly endlinks, addco rear swaybar with moogs, all poly motor mounts, agx struts with moog "heavy cargo" or whatever springs, umi trailing arms, bmr lateral arms, somebody's rear strut tower brace.... can't really remember whose, and stainless steel brake lines all around. Larger rotors will get put on when the brakes are worn more, and 17" wheels and tires will get done when the tires I have are worn. Parking brake stuff is all getting replaced right now too since it's in shambles

Sounds like you are right there. One suggestion, while they supposedly screw up more than the 97-03 parking brake setup.....consider swapping to the 04+ rear caliper off the regular cars. When you buy.. find ones that are for a car with rear ABS/TC or reuse your wheel bearings. Reason being is no more horseshoe ebrake. It's part of the caliper on the newer ones.

I did GMPP rear bar, HT motorsports bars/links, 08 calipers/ebrake cables, dorman endlinks, all poly bushings, SS lines, GR2's with Vogtlands, GM STB with rome brackets for the rear, 18" lucerne rims,

Rear:

Front:

Entire car has sound deadening. Floor, trunk, inside doors, trunk lid. It's excessive and quiet.

All the more reason I wish I had money to buy this car. :(

You guys are going to make me even more broke if you keep suggesting all these awesome ideas :p I'll definitely look into it, but at this point I just want to get it up and running again... that might be another one for the to do list when I do brakes. You wouldn't happen to have a how to on that would you? I tried the search but to no avail..

So it's been a while, but a quick update. Due to extenuating circumstances, my dad has to sell his house, and i gotta get my car out of the garage so its now a push to get the buick running.

Battery relocation is done, rear suspension is all together, engine harness is all cleaned up with new loom and a little rerouting, FMHE mounted, and the new parking brake hardware is all together.

New flare tool for bubble flares (somewhere in there anyways)

My plan is to use the smaller reservoir with the sight glass as a common reservoir for both the engine coolant system and the intercooler system and the bigger one will be pressurized with a radiator cap for the intercooler. In the middle is an amsoil bypass oil filter/oil filter relocator. It adds a full quart of oil to the system, relocates your full flow filter to wherever you choose, and improves filtration from 10 microns to 2 microns.
