97 GTP The White Ghost aka Pearl

I have been debating on, if i should change the head gaskets or not because she has 230,000 miles on her. I would hate to have to change the head gaskets after a year or so, after changing the LIM gaskets. Any thoughts on this?

I have also seen some oil on the exhaust manifold too, after running her for 10 min and seeing smoke from burning oil on the exhaust manifold

I got everything I need to do my LIM gaskets. The last shipment came in last night.

I'm going to get to it this weekend. Also, while I got her apart I'm going to paint her all up....nice and purty! So, it's going to take a little longer than usual.

dont forget to rent or buy a gm power steering pulley puller. no way to get that p/s pulley off with out one.

i see you got the t stat rubber seal too. good move. mine was torn up, i thought it was rtv at first, thats how bad it looked.

I am probably just going to buy one, if it's not to expensive......Lol!

I didn't want to take any chances with it. It was was cheap so I purchased it.

I started a little later then I wanted to today. I flushed the system out, it was some rusty looking coolant. I used a flush kit and it work out pretty good. Then I drained the remaining coolant in the radiator and engine through the cockpit.

This is where I'm at!

I'm having problems with getting the fuel rail out.
I'm also having problems with getting this off.

I removed one bolt on the bottom of it.

you have a 97, so the lower elbow is cast. its part of the alt bracket. you need to remove all the bolts, then pull on it level to the fender with a little wiggle. this can seem like its taking forever, but take your time or you can break the timing cover.

the fuel rail. with the 4 corners un bolted, lift the rail up on one side at a time, do the wiggle left to right as its coming up, then repeat for the rear side.

I only could find one bolt and took it out and another bolt was the bolt that hooks the alternator up.
Did I miss one...how many bolts are there?

I did take out 4 nuts that hold down the fuel rail. That sucker is in there real good...lol

you just gotta pull on that rail to get the injectors out. once they move a little they will pop out.

nice post you found there. i just saved it myself.

I got the pulley tensioner off today along with the fuel rail. Both of them were a pain to get off. I sprayed some liquid wrench in the fuel injector and the pulley tensioner area. Then, they came off/out.

All I got left to take off is the UIM and LIM.

get a box of Q tips. then spray some brake cleaner in the cap of the can, then dip the Q tips and clean those injector holes up real good. use 2 Q tips or even 3 at a time.

you'll go through 50 Q tips easy. maybe more.
