97 GTP has hardly any power.

Re: How To reduce as much KR possible.

really? If only there was a thread that explained all of this...................................

Re: How To reduce as much KR possible.

theres an explination but there isent a thread that tells you what to change out to reduce knock;p

Re: How To reduce as much KR possible.

What mods can i do to eliminate as much KR possible on my stock GTP with the 3.8 pulley.
ill be wanting to put a 3.4 -3.2 inch pulley on later soo i wanna get prepared and reduce KR first. i know the u bend delete is one. but what else.?? i already have a cold air system too . anyone can help a newbie out :) thanks:)

its a 97 gtp

$3000 and a weekend.

Stop making new threads.

Your problems are most probably all related to one another.

Creating a new thread just prevents people from having all of the information to be able to give you more accurate advice.

soo you want me to change a subject in thread thats made for one subject only. that would end up confusing people. i just asked a simple question and youtrash on me, which isent very nice... im just trying to educate myself. im new to this and u have to understand that.

I didn't trash you.

I'm giving you a simple suggestion which will help others understand just what you're trying to accomplish. And thus provide helpful advice.

The subject of this thread is your car is slow, why is it slow, how can i make it faster.

Its really a rather broad topic.

Run down to the petro with ultra 94 and fill up on that.

As per:

Found the knock problem. Very gently and nicely w/o going past 1/3 throttle burn off the rest of your tank and fill up with 93 octane from now until you sell the car. leave the plugs and wires alone. they are likely fine.

The reason octane is so important in these motors is because of the added boost pressure. What happens is the cylinders get hot very quickly and that can make lower octane fuel burn before the spark ignites it. This causes predetonation. The more boost, the more likely the air/fuel charge will ignite before the correct time. It's also very easy to chip a piston when beating it this way. The octane keeps the fuel from igniting as easily.

That alone should take care of most of your KR.

There isn't much point in spending money on go fast mods unless you're running the right fuel for your car.

i put super 94 in it today and now hope for the best. now i want to move on to the next step alright. i want to down grade my pulley . i dont want engine damage doing so . i want advice on what mods i should do to reduce EVEN MORE KR so when i install the pulley it wont be a time bomb. everyone understand each other now?

well i did the home made cold air filter in the right side fender well, i have a glass pack cherry bomb where the resonator is usually located. my mufflers are deleted. and i still have the u bend. im gonna be removing that soon. i have new wires , newish plugs. and thats pretty much it. im looking for some more mods to do to reduce more KR. how bout a cooler thermostate? if soo what temp is good?

See, the only thing helping you right now is the FWI.

That can technically make you knock more because colder air = denser air.

What you did with the exhaust after the u bend has no effect because the u bend it still there. Remove the ubend and stick your mufflers back on. You need exhaust velocity. Colder tstat will help too.. Mostly with heatsoak, but i suggest you dont do this till you get a tune

You should look into headers. That will take care of the downpipe and flow from the block in one shot. $200 buys you a set of SD headers.

:: Overkill Motorsports :: this a good tune for my PCM??? check it out. and the reason why i removed my mufflers is to get a better sound from the cherry bomb cause its sounds really nice. and i was goonnna do the ubend delete soon. check out the PCM tunned that i found. hes only 4 hours away from me. let me know what you guys think of it. hes my closes tunner that ive found yet. thanks. and what is FWI?

Yes it is, however he's not the closest to you.

He's in Whitby now.

Kevin from Cartuning is in Toronto.

In the grand scheme of things, won't make much of a difference.

yea i know . i might go down there for a ride and just buy the tune off him insted of paying shipping fees there and back and waiting. but thats wat ill do first. ill get the pcm tune. ubend delete. prob cat delete too and pulley and thermostate and plugs AL104's.and that should do it right?

a tank of gas is $70, i'm sure shipping is less than that.

Do you have to get your car e-tested? If so, you're going to want a very good cat. cartuning cats work well, but are pricey.

I'd suggest headers. At the very least a 3" downpipe, preferably a 3" downpipe with a PLOG.

Headers > plog + 3" DP > 3" DP > 2.5" DP > u bend delete > stock.

if you delete the cat make sure he deletes rear o2 and egr code.

try a 3.5 pulley first. -- You're better off him making you a one off tune if you're gonna be there in person.
