91 caprice flooding out after running 5 min

I just bought a 91 caprice and haven't been able to get it home yet since it'll only run for about 5-10 min before flooding out. I replaced the spark plugs and coolant temp sensor and it didn't fix anything. I'm just wondering if anyone else has any ideas. It has a 5.0 in it tbi.

Any vac leaks? Being that old those old lines are bound to be brittle by now. Also, check the base of the throttle body as they like to leak there, and of course could also be a stuck injector.

How does it idle?

Watch the injector spray pattern. Those injectors gum up over time and cause some fun running issues...like when the PCM tries to increase pulse width the injector starts dribbling. Also, after about 5 minutes of running, the O2 starts reporting so you might have an O2 pegged lean causing it to try to add fuel.

So I'll try checking the spray pattern out and then unplugging the o2 and seeing about that as well. I like the cheap suggestions lol. I only paid $250 for the car so I'm trying to flip it.

you should keep it and throw on some 32's :th_jester:

Screw 32's, get a lift kit:

Around here you could get $4-5k+ with it running and that's all. Guys buy those old caprice up like hot cakes here.

I always wanted a newer one with a lt1. I thought it would be fun to make a wagon fast. People are always shocked how fast my regal is. Would be just as fun beating mustangs in a big wagon. As far as your problem go's it wouldn't be your tb gasket, they idle up when they go bad. Same with a vac leak, unless its a big one. A bad map, will make it sound like it has a cam. So will the egr they stick, could idle up to. Inside the tbi at the bottom of the injectors there's a gasket that will leak, but would cause it run rich all the time. Same go's with the top gasket, where the pressure regulator is in. If you had a stuck open injector, chances are it wouldn't start. Since they run rich, during start up. You said you replaced the coolant temp sensor, that would have been my first guess. Did you look at the wire that go's into it? I would also take the tps out there plastic, on the pass side tb. They go bad. The groove from the tb pin becomes loose over time. If you check all of this including the o2, i would then look at the computer pins. Pull the harness off the computer and look for corrosion. I have seen distributors go bad with the plastic gear at the bottom has slop. When the computer go's to adjust the timing, they will run rough and rich. Same with the pickup module they will go bad from poor grounding.

Well today I ran it across town and it ran great the whole time left it set for about 4 hours hopped in it to run to dollar general and it ran like **** the whole time except at idle. So I'm thinking tps maybe.
