87 Formula Firebird wheels on a 2004 GP?

Couldn't figure out how to search for firebird rims on a GP, kept coming up zero. I have a 1987 Formula Firebird that I bought new in Oct. 86 and it is currently getting redone in my garage. I was wondering if the 16x8 rims and 245/50R16 tires would work on my 2004 GP. I'm guessing someone has tried this. Any pics out there?
I would like to increase the size of rubber on my GP but apparently the 6.5'' rim width is a big limitation. Would moving up to the 17''GXP wheels help? Or will there be problems with rubbing in the wheel wells or during strut compression.
Thanks.

Could you tell me about the wheels on your 2007? I have seen a few GP's with them but most have the painted silver ones like mine. (There are at least 25 Silver Grand Prix's in the Peoria, IL area.)

Those are factory wheels for a Grand Prix. Came on 2005 GTP's, and then were used on the GT models that came supercharged.

Pontiac put 18X8 on the front of the newer GXP's and 18X7 on the rear of the same car. those wheels are heavy, so sometimes people use Ford Mustang wheels because they come in a lot of sizes like 17X8. the wheel bolt pattern on the Grand Prix is 5X115 and the Mustang bolt pattern is 5X114.3 so it is different, but not enough to cause problems. Depending on the offset, if you are lowered and what size wheel/tire combo, you can fit something like 18X8.5. there is a whole discussion on this stickied someplace on here.

maybe this one will help:
