3800 lifter tick

Mines a tad more than injectors. I can hear them too..lol
But I can only hear my injectors with the hood up and
standing in front of the car....With no cat, no resonator and
a flowmaster (sounds like ass i might add), I cant really hear injectors
from inside the car.. Just lifters. Any kind of tick, tick, tick = annoying
Especially if it is loud enough that the car next to me at a red light can hear it..

I didn't know lifter tick was common in the 3800's. I've worked in a shop for 8 years and I've never heard a lifter tick on any 3800.

2 Engines in my GTP 1 in my Bonnie...
no lifter ticks amidst all the other problems between them.
Just injectors clicks.

How do you know its the lifters?

me too. i always thought an injector sounded more like a faint click.
lifter and injector, similar sound i will give it that.. But a lifter has more
of a distinct "tick".. Your more mechanically inclined people can differentiate
the two.
BTW unless your "mechanically inclined people" have worked on numerous 3800s, I wouldn't trust they're judgement. No offense, but at the shop we work on alot of 3800s for theyre normal problems, and none have ever gotten injectors in the 3 years of working at this dealership. The sound is very similar and alot of people that are "mechanically inclined" have asked when Im going to get headwork done to remove the lifter tap, I just laugh and tell them its the injectors.

like i said a few times now.. my injectors "click" AND my lifters tick. thats how i know the lifters tick.. because it is two differant sounds.
How do you and everyone else know it is not the lifters??
I didnt realize i put a sound clip on here.

Because my friend's lifters were not getting pumped up with oil because the inside of his engine had some sludge......his motor ran hot a few times and the oil broke down and caused the sludge. Since the lifters weren't pumping up with oil, he had a really loud tapping when starting the engine cold.

Thank you DuBob. Mine are not really loud, but they tick at startup
and they kinda mellow out once fully warmed. But it never goes away
completely..It fades in and out tick,tick,tick,tick,tick,tick,tick,tick,tick....
it is never consistent.

Also something to look at, is if you have and open cone filter. The top end noise is a lot more noticeable. Moreso on the 04+ cause I know you can hear mine clearly now since I put an open cone on.

Yeah man... after I threw a cone on mine I could hear tap tap tap tap tap and I searched around and came across that after putting and open cone you can hear it more noticeable. Not saying thats 100% what it is... but just a thought.

my 3100 ticks real loud until it warms up then it quiets down, and it also shakes like crazy like its misfiring does the 3800 do the same thing?
