255s or 245s?

Alright so I bought some old Mustang GT wheels, they're 17x8 and I was wondering what's the widest tires I can run up front without spacers or anything... 8 inches so the ideal size is 255s but can I possibly run 255/40 without rubbing (up front of course) or should I just go for 245/40 and play it safe? Oh I forgot to mention this is for 97-03

245/255 is the width...

The shorter sidewall number is making the tires look funny. Nothing less than 55 with 16's, 45 with 17's, and maybe 40 with 18's...I'd think 35's are alright as well.

55's WILL rub, although it gets reall close to the strut/spring perch, it's good there. It WILL rub your fender though. If you plan to roll them, it'll work. I mistakenly ordered 255's and had to live with them (got a year out of them). It was cringe time every bump, lol... Forget about it if I had wife & kids in car, in turns it would rub. And yes, they cost more to boot. 245's are just fine.: )

I have 245/45s on mine. Though not mustang rims, I would really think that 255/45 would be perfect on 8" wide rims with a great offset and dont slam on it. Almost factory height, nice wide look, still fill the wheel wells out.

245\45\17 will throw the speedometer off, 245\50\17s are the closest you will get to keep your speedo correct. 255s are too much and will rub. 245s are plenty.

Should the 2015 Regal GS' 19" wheels and 245/40/19 tyres work for an '04, then? When I compared sizes on the Goodyear site, the 19-inchers are a whopping 0.1" (!) taller than my stock 16s!

Pretty sure the bolt pattern is 5x120.

Which means G6/Cobalt blahblahblah.

No GP business there, skipper.

G6/cobalt are 5x110

5x120 is F-body, G8, 2nd gen Caddy CTS-V, Corvette etc....

245/45 is very common for 17s but look small on our cars. 245/50 is better.
