2005 GTP - CAI mod question

I was reading the post about safely modifying your 3800 engine, and they mention saving money by just "bolting" on a cone filter to the end of the MAF.

Does anyone have more specifics on doing this? What size K&N cone filter? Are there any additional pieces that you need to get to make this work?

Jeff

Don't go with a K&N. The oil is known to kill MAF's, even if you are careful not to over-oil it. Not sure on the size.

You'll need 2 couplers as we have 04+ and need to include the maf.

Nice.

Are those 3-3/2.5 intake couplers?

Spectre filter? And where did you get the piece from the MAF to the cone filter?

most of use use the home depot couplers, its got a metal band and clamps arounf the rubber you see there, its 5 bucks, 3 inch iirc you take the metal part off the camps and toss it.

or buy the expensive stuff at pep boys ricer section.

id go grab a filter at autozone, advanced, wherever..then I brought my filter inside Home Depot to check what fit correctly. I had a 4 inch by 9 inch k&n, then I believe the tb and maf is 3.25. I don't remember though. But the standard 3 inch couplers from Home Depot is what I got. The thing you need to worry about is the cone. So if you get a 3 inch cone you can run 3 inch straight. Mine had the flare to fit the 4 inch.

street pvc elbows are 3 inch on the small side, 4 inches where its fat.aka the side you would glue the next pipe into in its original purpose.

most air filters will fit 3 or 4 inch. my spectra had a rubber ring to make it work on a 3 inch pipe if needed too. take the ring out and it fits 4 inch, same as the fat side of the elbow.

If you do get the rubber coupler from home depot or lowes, I'd snag an extra one or two just because over time the thinner rubber will dry crack and become brittle. The first one of mine lasted 1 year before it started to dry crack alot, so I replaced it.

Some people actually drive their cars. Therefore they no rot.

Son.

One more question. The link you sent me looks like it's for a pre 04+ GP?? For the 04+, we need the hole for the vac line, correct? And obviously the MAF will need to be in between as well.
