Hey Guys, just joined & is my 1st time posting. I got a 2005 GP Base 3800V6 and i want a PCM also. After reading a lotof threads on this site, It seems like Intense is the company of choice due to the fast shipping & quality of the tunes... about the case relearn, does it need it? the one guy said his car was fine, backfired once, but is all good. I do not know anything, well very little, about case relearns... Hard to do? necessary for re-programmed PCM? I just got my car 3 months ago, 56k, and i just want to up the HP. $ is not a huge problem and i am willing to spend $. I just have a hard time finding parts for my 2005 Base model grand prix, everything is for <2003 or the GT/GTP/GXP..I know the engine in the GT and base models are the same but are all parts interchangable? or are the engine bay's slightly differ in size etc.? i even thought of maybe getting a turbo kit for it if i decide to keep the car (long term) or i thought of just small upgrades until i get a newer ride.. any good sites, any advice & any help is much appreciated! thank a lot guys! ~ Josh N

If your willing to spend money then do a turbo kit.

If not...then top swap it.

If you don't want to go THAT far...then read by thread in the General Tech Section called Safely Modding your 3800 Powered Car.

IMO

TDC Racing Fenderwell Intake
180* T-Stat
3800 Performance PCM (intense's are junk)
3" Catted Downpipe
ZZPerformance Front Powerlog
Flipped Motor Mounts
ZZPerformance HV3 Upper Insert

And...if you want a little more...High Ratio Rockers, 1.84:1 Roller's...b/c you can use stock valve springs and should giveu about 15-20 horsepower.

i have the base GP 2006 and i am having trouble finding guides for mods on our motor. it does seem as if everything in the threads refers to the GT's or GTP's. the only thing on the net that i found that said it was meant for our motor was a turbo kit that cost about $3100. i am not very familiar with modding at all so for all i know everything they are talking about with the GT's will pertain to ours also. would be good to know some quick facts if anyone reads this. i am really interested in getting my motor primed for the .25 some day.

The Gt's for most years are the 3.8 NA motor, which should be the same motor that you have. So all of the same mods(except the U bend delete-because you dont have a U bend stock) listed above would also work for you. You should have the series III 3.8 NA motor. I think you would have to get an 05 PCM to have tuned(not sure on this but if you did have to switch this your gas gauge would read backwards, I believe. I am not 100% due to not knowing what year this changed) instead of yours stock

Hey bud, Yeah if you have a 06 GP base model, our engines are the same as the GT (3800 Series III V6 N/A), i had the same problem, most websites and what not showcase parts for the SC V6 or the V8 models. ZZP performance has some good bolt on parts. I got a Intake from Ebay ($60 as opposed to $350), and i am ordering a PCM from intense & HV3 Intake insert from ZZP in a month or so... for more information, check out this thread that another memeber sent me a few weeks ago! http://www.grandprixforums.net/f81/safely-modding-your-3800-powered-car-17482.html

also TDC racing makes a reasonably priced air intake for your car which is much more effective performance wise than the ebay ones.

seems like a stupid question, but what would flipped motor mounts do?

Read the safely modding your 3800 thread!!!! to answer your question here......it makes it so that there is not so much play in your motor rocking when you get on it. It is more stable as the mounts are not square. These are the dog bone mounts not the lower motor mounts.

you're probably sick of posting that lol. if i actually had the money to mod anything i would have already read it, but at this point it's not in the budget

There is more to it then just mods...oh wait. You didn't read it. Nevermind then since your not modding your car...
