2004 GTP Won't Start

Used BCMs cannot be reprogrammed. They are vin locked. When new you only have so many ignition cycles before the unit is no longer programmable.

ok gotcha, that makes sense.

can you not buy a used one that is similar to options that you have? i guess i just dont see why they would have used ones for sale or why anyone would ever buy them if they are useless apart from their original car.

Simple answer for guys that need one and don't want to buy one new. Then receive it and realized that they just wasted their money and should of done more research. Just get a new one and avoid that.

Just an idea but what if you swapped the PCM and BCM together.. ?

You would give him more work lol. I suppose that could work also but then ill be more concerned w/ having to pay for a case relearn if he doesn't have the correct equipment. Either way he'll be sending what a new bcm would easily cost. I wouldn't want to be the test dummy in case that doesn't work either.

Update... I hooked up an Autel Automotive Diagnostic Scanner to the car yesterday and got the following diagnostic codes: photo.jpg

Is it worth trying the PCM security relearn procedure? I am unsure if this will fix my problem but maybe it is worth a try?

1. First, insert the ignition key and
turn the ignition switch to the
“On” position (Do not start the
engine). Leave the switch on for
11 minutes. The security light
may flash or be on steady during
this 11 minute period. Make sure
the light is no longer on or
flashing before proceeding to #2 .
2. Turn the ignition switch off for 30
seconds.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the
“On” position (as in step #1) for
11 minutes again.
4. Turn the ignition switch off for
another 30 seconds.
5. Turn the ignition switch to the
“On” position for 11 minutes a
third time.
6. Turn the ignition switch off for 30
seconds one final time.
7. Turn the ignition switch to the
“On” position one final time and
wait 30 seconds.
8. Attempt to start the engine.
If the engine starts and runs
normally, the relearn is
complete.

Youll have that code in the pcm because it saw the loss of that fuel enable signal from the bcm. (one more indication) your pcm has nothing to do with your no starting issues.

My advice for you would be find the part number from the dealership. (call the parts department) give them your last 8 of the vin and let them give you the price, then ask what the part number is. Then google that part number find it cheapest you can new. Take it to a dealership (or shop with tech2) with your car and programming should be a typical hour charge. Youll walk out for less than $100 labor. Problem solved.

I doubt that scanner can read the BCM but try and communicate with it.. If it comes back no communication then it's just another give away that the unit is bad.

Ok. What part are you referring to? The BCM? I did call the GM dealership closest to me and they told me they will reprogram the BCM for $110.

I think this is the best advice we should take! Use your carquest discount and buy the BCM then have the dealer reprogram it for you.

Yes, I think he was referring to the BCM.

One of the biggest recommendations I can give... Only use GM/AC Delco ELECTRICAL Parts.

Take that as you wish.. but be warned... more than half of the issues I see are Directly related to the aftermarket part used. I've fixed countless vehicles with problems that lead back to those non-oem parts. That's why I suggested getting the oem p/n and searching it online new. You usually get pretty close to cost on items just by looking for them on Google.
