Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!
If it's not one thing it's another. I got one good day of tuning in, then drove for about 30 miles to learn the trims again, and went for another log the next day. 5* of KR and sounds like a bad pulley somewhere. Ends up being my compressor pulley bearing LOCKED up. I have it pulled and I can't turn it by hand. Anyways. It's uncharted territory for me, never replaced a clutch before. I take my time getting the old one off and what not, and pick up a re-manufactured clutch for $50, only $30 more than the bearing, so why not?
I no sooner touched the new coil and the connector broke off. Seriously, way to fragile. SO I took it back to warranty it out and they said they'd have to order one. It'd be here Friday. Damn. Another day of tuning gone. Friday rolls around, they didn't have it. They say they never cleared the count out after I bought the first one (warehouse showed 1 on hand). I pitch a little bit of a fit, nothing crazy (tears, snot, mascara, etc.) , and they ordered in a brand new one ($100 difference) clutch...that got here today (Saturday) at 2:00PM. Another day of tuning gone. Install was frustrating, but mainly because I was figuring everything out.
Getting the coil put on was fun. I tried throwing it in the oven at 200*F for 20 minutes, which helped a lot, but the coil still had about 3\16 of an inch left to go on. I tried to get the pulley on and it wouldn't go on far enough for the snap ring. To get the pulley on the rest of the way I ended up using the clutch installer took (which threads onto the compressor shaft) and a 2 inch (3\4" drive) socket I had to press it on the rest of the way. I probably could have just used the socket idea from the get go. After that, the pulley went right on along with the snap ring. Then the clutch...the clutch would get about .050" away from where it needed to be, and just stop dead. Happened 3 times. I looked up all kinds of how to's and they all said what I did, so I got angry, and decided to go out and try again. It worked fine and went right on. I still don't know what i did differently, lol.
After that it was easy peasey. retaining nut, belts, wheel, done. This car has never idled so quietly. Other than the IAC sounding like it's hawking a loogie when the engine is cold of course. I never knew how loud it idled until I fixed the problem lol. I was able to at least get a good MAF scan the other day, so I made those changes and flashed the car.
At this point I don't know if I even want to tune the MAF anymore, in a week or 2 I'll have a ported TB to put on, and I'll just have to start over again. Eh, I'll probably just want to go driving and end up tuning again tomorrow. What a way to spend 2 weeks off, right?
