2000 Daytona

Re: Daytona 500 NIC Cam (Heads/GenV On!)

Well guys, here it is. Turns out it snapped another rocker bolt and the rocker came loose. Why did it happen? I don't know, but I'm not putting the blame on us, or the rocker bolt, or anything else lol The good news is, it's fixed. Now the real funny part is, when the guy put it all back together and figured out everything was okay, he took it out for a test drive and on one of the WOT runs he made, it snapped the input shaft in the trans. :th_laugh-lol2: I guess that's okay since it's getting a trans build anyways, which means I should have the car back soon!

Aaaaaaaaaaand that's my pushrod :th_depressed:

Re: Daytona 500 NIC Cam (Heads/GenV On!)

Yep thread locker on EVERY bolt... I hate to say it but I almost think you got a bad set of rocker bolts...

Re: Daytona 500 NIC Cam (Heads/GenV On!)

I don't see much thread locker. Tough to believe that with thread locker & the correct tq spec that bolt came loose. Did you rotate the engine to make sure everything was seated nicely & do another re-tq? Did you give the thread locker any time to set before firing up the motor? It's craziness to see that! lol

Re: Daytona 500 NIC Cam (Heads/GenV On!)

well you dont see any thread locker because that was the snapped off portion...LOL...They set over night before the car got fired up... there was TOO much lock tight on there...

Re: Daytona 500 NIC Cam (Heads/GenV On!)

No thread locker on bolt?

Yea, what Iceman said lol that bolt is half of it. We definitely put a good helping of red thread lock on every bolt, I just don't know why we had such trouble with them...

Re: Daytona 500 NIC Cam (Heads/GenV On!)

well hell thats not bad at all, now no need for a full rebuild.... Id almost suggest since its nothing stupid complicated getting a new set of bolts and replaceing all of them just to ensure no more issue popping up

sucks about the trans, but we all knew that was due

Re: Daytona 500 NIC Cam (Heads/GenV On!)

Haha I must have missed the "snapped off" part - it kinda looked like it but I wasn't sure

Re: Daytona 500 NIC Cam (Heads/GenV On!)

Awesome its back up and running. Really glad to see this.

Me & and you were both right, it was a Rocker indeed.

These rocker bolts gave us nothing but trouble. Unsure why.

Glad you are getting your trans fully built now, your trans was a ticking time bomb.

OH, and uhhhh, sooooo whens e85?

Re: Daytona 500 NIC Cam (Heads/GenV On!)

So whoever blew the trans during the test drive is paying for it, right? :th_winking:

Haha, I wish. But it's good it blew up in his hands, and not mine :)

Yea, who knows about those bolts. But its fixed now :) and E85 will be soon don't worry, let me make sure the car runs good first ;)

Re: Daytona 500 NIC Cam (Heads/GenV On!)

Josh has a perfectly fine torque wrench... Both of them work great..

Re: Daytona 500 NIC Cam (Heads/GenV On!)

Ever calibrate them? I have a sketchy torque wrench I used on my motor but all is well for now.
