Re: 1997 Black GTP, Bye-Bye Broken Trans

Yay! Remember, break it in easy. Don't pull out and see how long you can leave black marks :th_laugh-lol2:

Please elaborate on break it in easily.

Im not going to do burnouts, i was just planning on doing a few WOT rolls once i got the car back to feel some firm shifting, that ive never felt in my life.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Bye-Bye Broken Trans

Dan..

Not sure if I weighed in on the IS. however in my conversations with trans builders the 4340 is not good for 600hp. In some cases the builders have found them broken with say 300ish which is about what a stocker is good for. It's doubtful that you'll build the car that crazy on your student income, so all should be well. Wanted to let you know that overall the 4340 from what I've heard should be considered about equal to stock for hp purposes.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Bye-Bye Broken Trans

Like you mentioned, on a student income, building this car will be a very slow process and i dont plan to go crazy.

By what ive heard around, the 4340 should hold up just fine, especially since i never plan to really go above 300whp, if my car even ever gets there.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Bye-Bye Broken Trans

Yes sir... just wanted to let you know to not believe what is on the website about it handling double stock power.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Bye-Bye Broken Trans

Dan..if something doesn't really have a tech spec sheet on it and says in the ad that it handles double the hp of a stock build. Then I expect since a stock is 240hp from the factory that the shaft was tested and proven to accept 480hp from the crankshaft. Which in this case (from what I am told) is often no where near the reality.

Drive it easy for a week or so.

If it was a motor build I'd say just go beat the sh1t out of it.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Bye-Bye Broken Trans

And typically, the majority of us just believe what the website says, therefore we buy it without any real proof of what it can hold

That is, unless you get educated by Bill prior to the purchase :th_laugh-lol2:, but in this case, i already bought the product.

No turning back now.

Yes sir.

Quick question, now thats it rebuilt, should i get a full trans flush every 30k - 50k or whatever the recommended mileage is.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Bye-Bye Broken Trans

Nope.. pan drop service with fresh filter every 30K or once a year. Whichever happens first.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Bye-Bye Broken Trans

Full Flushes are bag mojo. Always best to just service filter and refill with new fluid.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Bye-Bye Broken Trans

I didn't think auto trans needed any break in time? I know on standard trans you have to take it easy on the clutch for a while.

Not to muck up the thread... BUT what you are saying is go 300m or bust???

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Bye-Bye Broken Trans

Yes thats whats Bills saying.

I got to say the 4340 is better than stock. Please tell me i did something right.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Bye-Bye Broken Trans

Just stop worrying bud. You did the best you can with what you have, and that's all you can do. You know better than anyone how you drive and you know that you're not gonna kill it, so just relax, get the car fixed, and enjoy your drive. Don't worry about the little things
