Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR + Update

I find it hilarious that these cars hate regular everyday things. Trans flush is normal. But for us it's a death wish.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR + Update

Actually Jordo.. I have heard that a trans flush on ANY car with more then 100k is asking for trouble...

Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR + Update

I am going to do the vans.. It is still under warranty.. so if it fails.. THEY FIX IT...

Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR + Update

both my trucks i bought new of the lot, do a full flush on both trannys every 30,000 to 35,000 miles

the 97 i rolled up to 175,000, then right before i sold it reverse went out. sold as is.

the 03 i sold at 105,000. and i still blew that tranny up. it was only slipping in reverse, but had it replaced under warranty.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR + Update

Yikes didn't know you flushed it man. I mean my trans was pretty well exercised right under 100k when I got it. And I think I've done 3 pan drops now, all with Lucas and fresh fluid and it definitely gave it some new life. Shift kit helps too, just wish I had opted for the bang screetch option :D

Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR + Update

So when is it necessary to do maintenance on the trans like replacing its fluid?

Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR + Update

if you own it from new, you can flush it every 50,000 or so. if its got a unknown service history, never flush it. only drop the pan, and change the filter.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR + Update

well i got it at 56k miles...not sure if it was done or not. I doubt it was. at 70k now

Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR + Update

Trans was slipping even before i did this.

I just made the Trans not last as long.

It was going out one way or another.

New Trans for this car next summer. Rebuilt plus some hard parts. Sure.

Murphy's Law "If it jams, Force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyways."

Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR + Update

I tried to install the black VC, got the bottom bolt off, and also the brace from the alternator to the coil bracket off. Damn thing wouldnt budge, as i only thought those were the two things holding it on. Come to find out, I need to remove the bolt from the middle of the tensioner and of coarse its a hex nut. I dont have any Inverted Torx sockets and i didnt want to use a regular socket, to not strip it, so i had to put it back together, sadly and wait until i can the inverted torx

the middle of the tensioner is a nut, pay no mind to the tip that looks like a star. stick a socket inside and take it off. thats for the s/c tensioner. then take the rest of the nuts and bolts off that hold the coil bracket on the side of the head.

97 and 98 you can see the gap, remove the alt and the rear cover will come right off. no need to mess with the alt bracket at all. or the tensioner by the alt.
