Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR + Update

Car is taking a long time to crank over on a cold start ever since I put in the new injectors.

I'm thinking its not liking the 4 other injectors I put in. I might try to swap back to my originals.

Any ideas?

1 can in a full gas tank.
Half a can in the crankcase about 100 miles prior to an oil change.
The other half in vacuum line to all cylinders.

For the full cleaning effect :)

Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR + Update

Well coing home from School, car took forever to turn over and i as was driving home, i smelled gas through the air vents.

When i got home, i popped the hood, front injectors were fine, but the back middle one was leaking like a b*tch. Removed the rails, took off the injector and sure enough, the o-ring was busted, put on a new one and were good to go.

So josh, i suppose you are right when you said, buy new o-rings.

Yeah, new orings are cheap. Easiest to replace them while things are apart.

At least you caught it without burning the car down....

Oh. Dear. God. I leave for a week and come back to find out you guys try to burn down Dan's Car! WTF? Save $5.00, torch the whole car. W00T! /facepalm just glad Dan found it before it caught fire. ALWAYS change them if they aren't new, a car fire isn't worth the risk of saving pennies.

BTW Dan... you keep saying its getting progressively worse but what I'm not seeing over the past WEEK of posts is a change of fuel filter. Need to focus on that above all other things. You are saying its having mis-fires, pushing for injectors (that didn't help), having slow starts, still on old fuel filter.

Y U NO FIX PROBLEM #1 FIRST DAN?

Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR + Update

Sheff.

Let me explain.

Why you no read about fuel filter?!

Ive tried multiple times to get that damn fuel filter off, i have a brand new sitting in my car waiting to go on BUT the original one is so rusted on there, it wont budge. I PB blasted that sh*t... ALOT but it wont move what so ever. No idea how im going to get it off.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR + Update

I did read about the fuel filter, but you haven't tried hard enough :th_nanana:

I would have broken a wrench, broken the tube, or striped a nut before I would have said ok lets cut this *****. Then get a new tube, rent the flare tool, flare the ends and bolt up the new filter. I have had a car down for the weekend, but was back up and running without a problem after some "Southern Engineering" lol

Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR + Update

Remember, if you get the car in the air (support properly) you have the room to interlock the wrenches like

step2-M.jpg

It will give you more leverage to break it loose or break something else lol

Suggestion would be to set one against the body so it doesn't move when you torque on the other side.

Oh... AND MAKE SURE YOU TURN IT THE RIGHT WAY :th_nanana:

Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR + Update

can tell you how many times i've used that move....:th_thumbsup-wink:

you do need to hold it straight and not let it twist, cause it hurts when it slides off lol

Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR + Update

Sheff your a smart cookie.

Well i put my stock o2 sensor back in. With the "new" one i was seeing 20mpg on the highway, cruise at 73.

With the old one back in im seeing 24ish mpg cruise at 73 also.

Next paycheck im buying a Bosch o2 and hopefully my MPGs will go up to 28ish once again.

ALSO my trans is now slipping... bad. im a tad worried :th_nervous:
Im hoping it will hold together until next summer cause i wont be able to afford a trans until then.

If i still have the car and the trans holds together by then, i will be getting it rebuilt and while its out ill have some parts to install. Built trans here i come :)

Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR + Update

Lower your speed, watch your mpgs improve.

Cruise for ME anyway, always lower the MPGs, its always in and out of the gas trying to maintain one exact speed.

24 at 73 seems about right, try 65-68 and I'd say 28-29 is possible.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR + Update

I never drive fast in this car. I baby the sh*t out of it. Tomorrow ill give it a try and see what i get at 68. I just figured cruise actually improves gas mileage, i could be mistaking it seems like though

Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR + Update

its a 97, what do you expect

Actually edit: Its a Grand Prix, what do you expect.

The one good from this is a built trans. But shelling out the money when the time comes is going to kill me
