Re: 1997 Black GTP, Front Air Dam Test/Mock Fit.

Hood AND front air dam are getting painted together. Both are at the body shop as we speak. Should be finished Thursday! Stay tuned

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Front Air Dam Test/Mock Fit.

Car will be finished saturday evening now at the earliest.

But Most likely wont be done until monday.

The guy whos painting everything for me said he is going to stay late and work on the hood and is going to push for it to be done saturday for me but wants to do his best work (Prime, paint, clear, wet sand, buff) so it most likely wont be done until monday.

Well see though, for only $350 for everything, i should just be patient and wait to have it done all right instead of trying to rush the guy. Just getting a little anxious, but who wouldnt when you got a grand of parts being painted?

I would be so upset if he changed to tomorrow. Wouldn't surprise me since it was suppose to be done last Thursday.

But he said to come down to the shop today at 4, and i'm going to do so. Its going on the car finished or not today. :)

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Front Air Dam Test/Mock Fit.

It's always best to not rush a painter if you want it done correct and for that price I wouldn't complain. Had a friend paint his Honda Civic in PPG S2K blue by a friend of his dad. He rushed him. Had so much overspray. Guy forgot to paint underneath his hood. Never bothered removing the bumper or lights or any panels. got overspray everywhere..on his trim. headlights..wheel wells etc and this wasn't a cheap paint job. Cost around 3k IIRC and he had to drop his car off so many times to get errors corrected. Even now it doesn't look like a 3k quality paint job. Total waste of money he was better off going to cheapo Maccos for better quality.

Yeah i agree on not trying to rush the painter. I was just getting a little anxious since its been pushed back 4 days past the scheduled finished date. Im sure it will be worth the wait once i see it all.

Wells here is a picture the painter sent me. Looks real good from the picture. Im jacked to get it on the car.

Thats what i was thinking. I just went and got a car wash so we will see how it turns out. I might install the hood myself. How do you install a hood?

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Front Air Dam & SD Hood Sneek Peek.

You are going to love te new look. To install the hood it's like 2 bolts on the latches for each side and the hood struts. It's pretty straight forward. Then you can turn the rubber posts that are in the engine bay if you need to adjust how low the hood sits.

Very carefully.

With many friends.

And even more Microfiber cloths than friends.

And the 4 bolts it takes to bolt the hood to the swivel brackets. Then slowly let it down as you make sure it is aligned properly, once that is certain you can tighten the bolt and re-check alignment. Then adjust the latch to it shuts properly and latches safely so you don't scream like a little sissy girl as your freshly painted hood slams up into the windshield.

Or just have the shop do all this for you so if they mess up the hood during install, they fix it.

i thought you said he was doing free installation lol and its hard to install a hood by yourself you might need an extra hand

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Front Air Dam & SD Hood Sneek Peek.

Well they installed it for me, i helped a little bit. I need to bring the car back in 30 days because they said the clear is dry but not cured. So there are still some scratches from the wet sanding. So in 30 days the guy said he would re-buff it for me. I might do it myself. We will see later. The black matches perfecty and the silver matches almost perfect but a little off. I am very happy with the look. I have a real good looking GP now i think :)

HERE ARE THE PICTURES:
