Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Broken Dreams.

If the cam is made by COMP, that failure is extremely common.

Nearly every week or atleast twice a month someone of the lstech or performance trucks board comes on and says their comp cam is ****ed. Funny thing is, is that the lifter are perfect still. The metal of the camshaft is to blame for the failure, bad blanks to start with.

Pretty sure the XP Cam is made by COMP Cams. But I'm not totally sure.

Whatever caused the damage, whether it was a lifter, something else, or just a cam failure like you said, the cam is still toast. Sucks.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Soon To Have F-Body Brakes.

Looks like you and I, are going to get creative to make lamp out of some car parts. Pretty nifty, I'd say.

No choppy Idle for me, makes me sad. Eventually, I'll probably buy another XP cam if a good deal pops up.

Hmm lol I know a guy that knows a guy

Well at least on the plus side you noticed the damage before you pulled your car apart.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Broken Dreams.

Indeed. Damage was noticed before tearing into the car.

Already turning this XP cam into a lamp. Bought a black shade and a Lamp Build Kit on eBay. Lol. Going to pretty sweet.

If I am not mistaken most if not all the cams for the 3800 are made by comp cams, the vendors just use their own specs and stuff.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Now With Broken Dreams.

Your cruise kr issue I had a long time ago, both in my '97 GT and '97 GTP. Same engine in both cars, in my case it turned out to be the double roller chain rubbing on the oil pump cover causing it. That engine now lives in my '99 ssei, with a new stock chain/dampener, and no kr issues. It got so bad in the GT that I disconnected the knock sensors just to be able to drive the damn thing. Xp is totally worth it, couldn't bring myself to buy such a critical part used though, just budgeted the $300 for new into the build.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Now With Broken Dreams.

After 2 years of religiously looking for 04+ seats, I finally found some. I obviously wanted leather/heated/power, and every time a set came up for sale they were either in very rough condition or people were asking $350+ for them, and I wasn't going to pay that.

My long waiting has finally paid off, thanks to Smuts, I finally got a quality set of seats.

Took the 3.5 hour drive down to his house Saturday, he helped me with the install, and back home I went. First off, they are 1,000,000x comfier than the 97-03 seats. Night and day difference. I don't have to stop every 45 minutes to stretch my back before I become paralyzed. Second, I honestly like the looks of them better than the original seats.

I also love the complete rear seat fold down and the passenger side seat fold down as well. So much more spacious with those features. Well worth the wait, drive, and money spent for these. Awesome upgrade.

The one down side, is the heated seat isn't working right now. Not sure if it's a wiring or mechanical issue but I'll look into it. I plan on creating a second heated seat switch for the passenger side now as well.

Car interior is very dirty and the seats need a good cleaning, but overall they are in great shape. The rears are virtually brand new.

Rear seats installed:

Sorry for my finger, but talk about a mess:

Gotta love the Grand Prix. Supercharged 4-door grocery getter/baby hauler:

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Now With 04+ Seats.

I would have to say that the seats in a 97-03 gp are worse than the seats in my work truck.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Now With 04+ Seats.

Looks good man. Glad to help out.

Thanks again man. I'm only half way convinced you know what you're doing ;)

Looks good! Once the heated seats work, time to make a dual switch panel, lol.

Plan on it! Just have to figure out the heated seat issues. Hopefully it's just a wiring issue.

^^^No kidding, it's like riding on a park bench.

This ^

There aren't many seats worse than worn in 97-03 seats. Like sitting on concrete slabs.
