Well I have a ahnd me down Grand Prix Se 1988 I'm assuming I'm in the correct area to post this - The transmission is an automatic -has first second drive and overdrive. Hers the deal the transmission will not go past second gear I believe. In drive I can only do 45 mph and Im up to almost 4 grand on the tach. I really dont know where to start to fix this - I really dont drive the car far about a mile a day to work -but i would like it to work proper. Does anyone have any tips that might point me in the correct direction to diagnose this problem-Also I'm not ready to to go to the tranny shop -its just not worth it to me. What are some of the things i should check besides the transmission fluid? Thanks any tips would be greatly appreciated

The transmission in your car is a 440T4 so this should be moved to the correct section. These transmissions' shift points are controlled strictly by the transmission itself and also the TV cable that connects to the throttle body. Make sure this cable is still connected and if that is ok you could try adjusting it but I dont think it is going to help you out any. These transmissions had a lot of problems and if your valve body isnt the cause then you likely have some internal damage such as burnt 3rd clutch plates or a bad 3rd sprag and either of these means rebuild.
