160 or 180 degree thermostat??

stock the knock sensors don't turn on until 160* so a 160* thermostat could hurt your engine if your knock sensors aren't active.

during the summer anyway it really doesn matter... its all about the fan settings usually... last year my stat went bad and I ran NO stat for about a month...

steady 180-200 with no stat... winter would obviously be a different story though...

The knock sensor kicks on past 160 because higher temps is when you get knock. Plus even though the stat is 160 doesn't mean tour engine is at 160, me operating temp is around 180-190

You can get knock when the engine is cold..

was that with the stock gauge or with a scan tool/scanguage? I notice that my factory gauge reads different (lower) than my scan gauge..

That was with my torque app. On my stock gauge it looks like its around 160* when its at 180*

I run a 180 during the summer months, and put the 195 back in during the winter. My temp gauge does read cooler with the 180 tstat. I do it because of running the a/c during the summer to try and keep the engine cooler. Vice versa for the winter, the heater blows hot air sooner with the 195 tstat which allows the engine to heat up faster. Not a big deal to swap them, more of a peace of mind thing than anything.

My heater blow plenty of hot air with a 180* in it. Within 2 miles of my house in the middle of winter i'm blowing heat.

How? Youll have heat with a 180 in the winter just as quickly.

Mine had a 180 in it when I got it and I put it back in when I built the motor. Not a huge fan of it though, probably go back to stock if I ever have the tstat housing off again. The heat sucks in the winter compared to a stocker and it makes no noticeable difference in performance or tuning

I have a 180* thermostat and the heat will run you out. It blows more than enough heat in the winter and is blowing heat by the time I'm about 2 miles from my house. You must have other problems.
