[10-09-2013 ] 3800 swap&topswap Complete!

Re: [update 04/14 ] 3800 swap

Update: the swap is planned for the first week in October. I have all parts and gaskets now except a SC belt and fluids. Mods are as follows:
mods will be as follows:
L36 bottom end
Ported Heads, L76 springs, Manley retainers, Light weight intense push rods, comp valve locks, Si Valves, viaton seals
Port matched Lower Intake Manifold
Ported Gen 3 M90 with stock pulley
Ported L67 TB and have a Northstar... will test to see which I will use. I plan to use a spare MAP sensor to test each TB for pressure drop.
3" MAF from my DOHC
Speed daddy headers to a 2.5" magnaflow muffler and then custom exhaust to dual tips.
4t65e with 3.29's
180* stat
Over sized radiator that is standard on the DOHC
Braided steel fuel lines off the lumina mpv van with 3800
Aluminum coolant elbows
Autolite 104 Iridium plugs .055 gap

The engine currently in NA form with an intake, HV3, and headers put down a 14.9 at the track. I am hoping for mid 13's when I take it back in the fall on a cold night.

For those who haven't followed the thread, two years ago with 224k miles my DOHC engine jumped time. I completed a 3800 swap and began planing for a topswap.

Re: [update 04/14 ] 3800 swap

Yes I run the msd coils just to annoy everyone. I have had them for years and these ones work great. I got them for free on a gtp i picked up for parts

Re: [update 09/19/13 ] 3800 swap&topswap

ok here is a teaser pic of the blower so far. all vac lines are on and it is currently set for the 1 bar MAP. I have a spare tree that i will swap if i set it for the 2 bar.

Re: [update 08/8/13 ] 3800 swap&topswap

Well i have heard back and forth that when top swapping and using an NA file that there are issues using a 2 bar Map. I am going to try that 2 bar anyway. I have setup two different vac line sets to use. I am pretty sure the 2 bar will work as my friend with a DOHC and M90 converted over to a 2 bar with no issues. I will prob just leave the 1 bar up there so i can scan pressure before the blower. this way i can see if there are any restrictions in the TB or intake. maybe with that data i can add to the debate about effectiveness of HAI vs CAI/FWI's another benefit to running the L36 Map saving time the day of the swap. yes it doesn't take that long but a 2 bar map is not essential to getting the car running. To save more time i already have had the l67 balancer installed. but who knows i just might have some extra time and throw it on. either way i can tune for both.

Re: [update 08/8/13 ] 3800 swap&topswap

Yep it is all going in. this car has gone thru a lot. pushed it's DOHC .2th's faster then any other monte, put down a respectable NA time with the L36, and now time for boost. I just can't wait to see what i dream up next

Re: [update 08/8/13 ] 3800 swap&topswap

Twin charge, lol. I like the upside down FPR, hides the vacuum lines well. I might have to steal that idea

I'm just playin. You would think a Holden manifold down under in Australia would be backwards...

But seriously yes the fpr turns.
