Re: '07 GXP - Scratched.

Make a trip to Ontario and have him do it. What's not to understand lol?

whats this DG671 and TufBuf wool pad and Dynabrade.
i'm sure i could google all this crap but i just am too lazy right now. need to take one set at a time and start collecting this product stuff. i won't get to it till after this weekend. i have a 1,000 mile trip to SD this weekend and won't be back till sunday night. leaving friday morning to go out there.

Re: '07 GXP - Scratched.

DG = Duragloss aka a product company.

Ill help you out u lazy bum

-Wash the car
-Tape around the scratch to avoid it on the rest of the car.
-Pour some of the touch up paint in the lid or plastic top
-Use a toothpick end to apply the paint and get down deep in the scratch. Apply again if needed.
-turn the toothpick on the side to level the paint
-the higher it is the more your going to have to wetsand
-let it dry overnite
-start with either 1000 or 2000 grit and wetsand.
-once you finish wetsandind use a --compound such at ultimate compound or meguairs 105 on a cutting pad (I don't know how much into detailing you are but if you don't have the type of buffer to do this kind of work you can do it by hand)
-use a polish (ultimate polish or meguairs 205)
-All the wetsanding marks should now be removed if you did it correct

Re: '07 GXP - Scratched.

theres the hook...... if i do it correctly.... or i could seriously **** up the bottom passenger door panel....

Re: '07 GXP - Scratched.

Then you just pay your deductible lol. I rather attempt to fix or at least make it presentable then leave it alone. After all you leave like it is your increasing the chance of it rusting there and then your looking at spending even more money.

i'll attempt yes. and its on the bottom door remember. nothing too visible like that key scratch was on that other forum. i'll do something with it. i'm not too worried about it.

Re: '07 GXP - Scratched.

the scratch looks deep i donno if compound is gonna get it out

I believe he said its down to bare metal. So.. Nope. No compounds gonna fix that lol

it is pretty metal... so i ordered some touch up paint so i'll be doing what Matt posted about filling it and wetsanding and polishing the **** out of it next week or whenever the paint get in.

i'll be using the rubbing compound on the other 2 scratches on the front and back... but i didn't see any place in town that had Meguiars compound...

here's what i get get on hand right away.
Turtle wax - scratch repair kit $18
Meguiar's - Scratch X 2.0 $12
Nu Finish - Scratch Doctor $12.50
Scratch out - $6.50d
mothers - Scratch Remover $9

so what does everyone thing i should go with?

Re: '07 GXP - Scratched.

^ all crap.

Stick with ultimate compound. Autozone, advance and I believe Walmart all carries it now.

guess i have to make my way all the way to wally world cause matt says its all ****.... i don't like supporting those cheap china buying *****es..

but i mean its for the car.. so i think this one can slip...

Re: '07 GXP - Scratched.

UC is like $10 IIRC. Rather speak up and save you from wasting money on products that won't work. I have just about all of those sitting on my shelf in the garage and just ended up being a waste.

Very happy with UC.

If that doesn't work you could also lightly wetsand those scratches out and then hit it with a compound then polish as long as its not through the clear.

Re: '07 GXP - Scratched.

wet sanding them might end up happening too. so what do i do for a clear coat since wetsanding is goign to take the clear coat off of the car in the spot?

Re: '07 GXP - Scratched.

Your not going to completely wetsand the entire clear coat off. Just enough to remove the scratch and that's it. General rule of thumb if you finger nail catches on the scratch then the clear coat is gone and its going to take a lot more then this to repair. If it doesn't then great means the scratch is probably in the clear cost and not the base coat. I would use 2k grit and constantly check and verify if the scratch is gone or not. May take you longer but you minimize the chance of removing to much clear coat. Then polish, compound and all the wetsanding marks should be gone. Then just apply a wax over it.

Re: '07 GXP - Scratched.

when i had to fill a deep scratch in the camaro i filled it with a tiny brush then compounded the entire area to blend it without talking off the fresh paint, and i blended pretty well!
