'07 GXP - Bish is a little louder now

Re: '07 GXP - Tranny work done... PITA

I was really thinking the same thing. How is that tie rod deemed bad? I know the boot looks a little wavy but mine's no better. I go by play in the steering.
the boot is the only thing that is bad as you can kinda see. i didn't get a good pic on it on the hoist so i just turned my wheel and stuck my phone in there hoping to get something.. and thats all you you.. the boot is completely split though.

Have u grabbed the tire at the 9 and 3 o'clock and pushed on one side and pulled on the other several times to see if it has play in it

i haven't.

Grease? That can be good.

it isn't grease..... it was raining out all day on saturday when i was home.

Re: '07 GXP - Tranny work done... PITA

Big deal if the boot is ripped, don't replace it untill its loose.

I see cars all day long with torn boots and they still have tight front end parts.

alright. i'll check for play first and go from there. if you say leave it.. i'll take your word on it.

Re: '07 GXP - Tranny work done... PITA

If its tight and you want to keep moisture out, get a grease gun with a needle fitting on it and push it inside the boot and do a pump or 2 of grease inside it.

don't think i have a needle fitting.. and thats one thing hate (or maybe i like) that there are no grease zerks on the car.

Re: '07 GXP - Tranny work being planned...

i just don't wanna go a week without my car while he rebuilds it. how much is a rebuild for the 4T65E usually?

I told myself that too. Here I am almost 3 months later...still waiting on TEP to finish my trans so I can finish my 2nd trans related overhaul. Guy really needs another set of hands in there.
I'd say for all new/fresh parts ~$1500-2500 depending on performance upgrades and not including the labor involved removing/installing the trans into the vehicle.

Re: '07 GXP - Tranny work done... PITA

I'm trying to figure out why you haven't had a professional alignment yet

Re: '07 GXP - Tranny work done... PITA

Why would you need it twice?

Do the alignment now and you wont have to do it later, new tires will not affect toe/caster or camber, and even if they did it would only be a super small amount.

Re: '07 GXP - Tranny work done... PITA

so with that boot not basically there.. it means that all the grease or lube that was in that boot is gone.. therefore the tie rod is going to be going out quicker than later. might as well replace it before it does and get an alignment and leave it at that. and right... new tires shouldnt make me have to align again.

Re: '07 GXP - Tranny work done... PITA

Just align it now and dont worry about it later, unless you drive like a maniac @140MPH over a huge pot hole the alignment should be fine. And if you dont want to pay twice for alignment then get that Lifetime alignment from Good year or Firestone.

Re: '07 GXP - Tranny work done... PITA

took my reverse bar off tonight.. will have some pics up of the nite-shade i'm sure.

Re: '07 GXP - Tranny work done... PITA

make sure its cleaned really really well, for some reason when i did mine at the same time i did the tails it was weird. The tails turned out great but the reverse bar turned out ****ty with the same amount of cleaning. So i did it again but really had to make sure it was CLEAN idk why it was a pain.

Good luck and in for pics

maybe its a different plastic? what do you suggest cleaning it with? i only have some Clorox wipes and hydrogen peroxide... and soap in my room...

Re: '07 GXP - Tranny work done... PITA

That should work fine, just was prob the plastic, what i ended up doing was applied the coats of VHT then lightly scuffed it with a scotch bright pad then put on quite of few coats of clear

But yours might behave better idk
