'07 GXP - Bish is a little louder now

matthew 7:7.... ask and it shall be given to you..

i don't read anywhere that don't ask and it shall be given to you.....

Re: '07 GXP - Dipped Wheels *pics*

alright everyone.. so i've sent an email to TEP and ZZP. TEP thinks i should do a rebuild right now..but thats not in the plans as of now or yet. My dad has a friend who works on trannys for a living so he might do it during his next in 2 weeks if i can get the parts and everything ready to go. does anyone know if you have to drop the tranny completely out or if you can just lower it to put in a boost valve and an input clutch piston? or do i have to take the tranny out for the piston or the valve?

TEP has a few options for valves.. but idk which one is best? ideas?
1)Sonnax 4T65E Boost Valve and Sleeve Kit
2)Superior AFL Valve Kit
piston
1)4T65E Reconditioned Input Clutch Apply Piston

ZZP has a valve too.
1)Sonnax - Sonnax Boost Valve Assembly #SON-84754-30K
piston
1)GM ACDelco - 4t65e Input Clutch Piston #GM-24203479

are these the only 2 things i'd need for this? or would i need anything else?

May i suggest having them make the Tranny better than GM had ever done or wished had done on that crappy trans. And then Turbo it, Zoom zoom. lol

The tranny will have to come out for those parts you wana put in and at that point you might as well do a full rebuild and and after you do a rebuild but my question more so before you pull the trigger on this have you thought to check other suspect things that made you think you need a transmission rebuild? as mentioned before factory GXP tunes have alot of KR in them which causes similiar issues if youre trying to floor the car around secondly have you taken a look at your lower engine mounts? does your alternator pulley sit below the strut tower? if so your engine mounts are sagging and more than likeley the front one is ripped in half. also the transmission mount they will also sag over time as well. If it were me id take care of everything driveline related and tune related and then give triple edge a call if need be.

Re: '07 GXP - Tranny work being planned...

You theoretically could pull the valve body off etc in teh car. But the apply piston, that's deep enough that you want the trans out. No trans guy is going to want to do that in a car.

I've moved away of the problem about the video that i posted. I'm pretty positive of the "slip" that i'm having is what bill posted the article is about. this -> No Forward Cold
TEP was who said i should do a full rebuild. i don't want to yet or i don't think i need to yet. but if i have to pull the tranny out then i might as well do it cause my dad's friend could do it pretty easily for me if i had all the parts and everything. I haven't looked at my engine mounts or anything just because i'm not looking into the KR anymore i'm looking more of the 'slip' i'm having going from a stop or a slow rolling stop. that article describes it perfectly and i think thats what i am going to do. although there are no codes popping up.. which should i be concerned?

thats what i was wondering. what you would do bill? would bull every thing out and do a rebuild or just try and put in a new boost valve and see if that cures it? Again, should i be concerned that i'm not getting a code for any of this 'slip' problem i'm having?

Re: '07 GXP - Tranny work being planned...

Personally, I'd go with what Dave at TEP says. He's had more experience than almost all of us combined. He's not the local dealership questioning what the issue is, he knows them all first hand.

Before you figure the local guy can do the VB stuff you need, ask if he has the tools. I sent my stuff to Dave to do because the tools for that particular fix etc run about $500 and these are only tools a good trans builder would have if they commonly did the fixes in a 4T65E. Others may suggest new VB etc to get around the cost of the tools.

he's been working on trannys since he was my age.. he works at a dealership doing specifically tranny work for them. i'm guessing he'll have the tools. but i'd make sure before. i just don't wanna go a week without my car while he rebuilds it. how much is a rebuild for the 4T65E usually?

I just emailed Dave and i'll ask him these questions. But do you know what tools are needed?

Re: '07 GXP - Tranny work being planned...

It all depends where you go and what you do.

Definately ask. A lot of dealerships swap the parts to a degree more than build. You should also ask if he clearances the packs or if he just tosses in what GM recommends. If you toss in the recommendation, you could drive it out the door with a P1811 from too much play in the packs.

To be clear I don't disagree with Dave but when did you experience no forward motion? The "slip" and no forward motion are two diffrent things.

I never experienced actual "no forward motion"... its just a slow take off and then BANG.. it'll engage 1st gear and just go like normal. "slip" is probably not the right word to use. but is more of a... i stop at a light.. go to take off and i move very slow for a second and then it'll grab and go like nothing. i'm hoping to just take off the side and put in a new boost valve and pressure control solenoid and hopefully that cures it. but i am emailing Dave as much as i am when he replies back to me. i emailed him what my plan is with taken just the drive train out and replacing the BV and he said i should replace the PCS right away too since its right there anyways.

i'll be buying all my parts through Dave most likely or ZZP. Not through dealership. ill be careful of the packs, i made a note. what if there is too much play in the packs?

Re: '07 GXP - Tranny work being planned...

Going in through the side.. he won't pull the clutch packs. No need to really worry there. However for knowledge, if there's a lot of space in the packs, that means the piston that engages the gear (aka clutches for the gear) will have a long travel, that means more time. Too much time is read by the pcm and with X amount, it throws P1811 thinking it has to jack the pressure to maximum in order to engage the clutches.

i think i understand that. i just put in a shift kit last weekend if that matters or makes a difference. so if i do get the code P1811, how do i cure that problem?

Re: '07 GXP - Tranny work being planned...

You've already done what you can....short of pulling the trans out and doing all the fixes during a rebuild.

Well in that case Since you described it as so. I was going off your video and description.

what do you mean i've done what i can? i haven't done anything yet. :th_scratchhead: you mean i only can replace the BV and PCS with the drive train out?
