• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

I don't have the hate for Dexcool that many on here seem to. It works just fine when maintained at proper intervals. If you do switch, just be sure to change every hose and flush everything thoroughly to make sure you don't have any contamination. No question you have the knowledge and ability to handle it yourself.

No need to change hoses if flushed properly. By your reasoning you should change the radiator and the whole engine too.

Only saw it once at the dealer. One of the guys I worked with in the shop changed from dexcool and flushed it good. He started having the signs of contamination about 2 months later. Nothing major, but it was clear it wasearly signs of contamination. He swapped hoses, flushed it, and never had a problem again. We started paying attention and hoses that had been on for a while appeared to have absorbed a slight amount of the chemicals from the coolant. Hoses need to be changed as maintenance anyway. If going to the trouble of changing coolant, it's cheap insurance.

No idea how old my hoses are, but my car has 164k + miles on it now. I swapped out the Dex maybe two years ago, and I have no contamination issues.

Unless you're sitting there with a microscope examining fluid and coolant passages you have no idea of what's contaminated and what's not. Just because its overheating dosent mean the residual dex/green coolant aren't there. Now rather or not its a huge amount or not is what matters.

Yeah ill do it myself, should i replace to Tstat too? it seems cheap enough. The car is approaching 100k so i want to do as much as recommended.

I would do the thermostat as well while you are at it. They are a bit of a pain to get to, but not as bad once the hoses are off. If you can find it, I like the ones that fail open rather than closed. When I look it up I show Motorad 456187 is thermostat and 524KT includes the housing and seal. You should be fine with just the thermostat. Rockauto shows to have both in stock.

I am on the fence about the water pump. If yours works fine, why mess with it. But, with 100k miles it could go any time. It might last another 100k or only 500 miles. if you are that far into it, it's probably worth replacing it if you have the time. Just get a quality replacement.

I say water pump cause there so easy to do and should take about 10mim to change and while the coolants already drained you might as well. Amazon sells acdelco ones. BTW

ordered the t stat online, planning on doing it this weekend or early next week. Just busy with work this week
