02 Grand Prix Dual Climate control problem

My wife's car is a 2002 Grand Prix GT with dual climate control. When the AC is on, the drivers side blows cold. The passenger side varies and then seems to blow hot. I did some searching and found the actuator for the pass side; removed it, opened it, plastic gears checked fine. hooked back up to to wire, started car, the actuator seems to wander back and forth if you you just touch the passenger side temp adjustment (not hooked to door flap), eventually going to hot. I moved door manually to close the hot air off.

Not sure if the actuator is bad or the hvac control module, or the temp switch?? any suggestions?? There is printed circuit board in the actuator. when i put 12v test light on the three leads, one lead (white w/stripe i think) reverses the motor direction. apparently going to ground

The drivers side responds and works fine when varying the temp control switch for that side.

I think i fixed it.

The drivers side temp door seem to respond fine with the temp control for that side. i took the drivers side actuator out and hooked to pass. wiring connector and moved the temp. control for the pass side. the actuator wandered back and forth. Went to a junk yard, as a chance and got another dual climate temperature control. Put it all back together and it seems to work fine.

ok im having the same problem as you.... but its the opposite for me(pass side is ice cold and drivers side(s) are harldy even cool)

what should i do...??? buy a used digital climate control????

I've fixed my drivers blend door cause i had no heat this winter it blowed it all to the dash. It works great now except i have the colder air on the passengers side too.

Not sure what causes it... :(

I would check to see if the door actuators are "wandering"
Remove one or both actuators, not really that hard. while watching them, move the dual climate control levers from hot to cold slowly and see if the they respond positively to the movement of the control. if not i would say you have a bad control.

Once you remove teh actutaors, if the dont rotate to full open and full close, you open one up to see if the plastic gears are sheared. I had one actuator that appeared to work fine and the other wandered, i then reversed the position, just in my hand and moved plugged into the other wiring connector. It moved fine on one side but not on the other, that's why I bought the new/used control.

I fully charged my AC system and it is working perfectly. I had the same problem where the driver side was blowing warmer air than the passenger side. After awhile, the driver side seemed to cool down some more. Try charging the AC system fully first.

Re-read his first post. He says his drivers side blows cold.

i know this is a old tread but i only saw a few people say it was fixed the cold air one side hot the other, i had the same problem, and if you think back i bet u had your battery removed for some reason, just prior to this problem happening, if u put the battery back on poss first and neg second the computers that work the actuator door freak out, so i would first try to unhook the poss side of battery, leave it off for 15 minutes, leave the neg side on, after 15 minutes put the poss cable back on, it should work just fine, if not try again, as i did have to pull my battery again after i fixed it and it went out of whack again and it took 3 try's to get it back to normal, hope this fixes someones problem,,worked for me 2 times already.

The battery thing, thats a good one. I heard that as well and tried it twice. It didnt work. i guess maybe i should have tried more times.
i still have the old control. If it acts up again, i will try the battery with both controls.

last time i left it off for 4 hours, and it was still messed up, then 30 minutes, then 15 minutes, i also make sure nothing is on, no doors open key is off, when i reinstalled the battery, and then turn the key forward, but not to crank, just run and that seems to be when all the actuators adjust them selfs. when u re hook the batt the dual climate control should just be on auto already when u turn the key as well, good luck, its something to try during commercials, thats how i found the time.
