Car takes forever to warm up

Is this a GP thing or is it just me? My 2004 takes forever to warm up on cold days when i start it and let it run. I do not turn on the heat until the engine temp is at least 140, that way im not wasting the little heat i have, once i get going, i crank it. Today, I was cruising along at 55 out in the country, outside temp was 15F. I had been driving for about 15 minutes and my temperature was up to 170. I came down hill into a town, and my temp had dropped to 165. The warmest the engine got on the entire trip was 190, and the stat is rated for 195.

The stat is pretty new so I doubt it got stuck open, is it possible that running the heat cools the engine that much? I drive a Honda Civic from time to time and in that car, it warms up within 5 miles gets to 195-200 and stays there no matter how high the heat is cranked or what the outside temperature is.

Is there anything i can do to make the car heat better? This is the same car that likes to run hot all summer long.
 


Mine takes forever also, I think it's just a GP thing. My buddy was complaining about his this last week too. Here in MN this last week it didn't get about single digits and I don't think my car ever got up to temp and I've got a 15-20 minute commute. To make it warm up faster, you could put cardboard over the radiator, but unless you aren't getting warm air from the heat I don't know why it would matter.
 
Thing is, when its warmer out, I can tell that the stat opens and closes correctly by watching Torque. My old stat was sticking shut and on mornings like the ones weve had lately(-20 to 0), it still took awhile.
 


i worked on my buddies ford ranger and noticed his harness is missing a wire where a coolant sensor is. i think its a temp sensor. gauge needle is always at the bottom on his cluster. he complains about his truck running like crap a lot. he did a tune up about a month ago so i don't know if it helped. no check engine lights

does the car run ok besides what you think the temp is? if the pcm doesnt know the actual temp then it may run poorly. the whole thing is designed to operate at 195. if it isn't it probably isn't running optimally. maybe you have a messed up cluster or a bad plug or wire somewhere.
 


I just put a new tstat in my 04 and it takes like 5-10 minutes if I drive right away but if I let it sit outside and warm up after 10 minutes it just gets to the bottom line of the temp gauge
