Just got my GTP home.

Soo i recently blew the trans in my GMC Jimmy and found it was gonna be cheaper (and more fun) to just get a different car rather than fix it... So, I started hitting ebay, craigsList, Autotrader and what not looking for a used 97-03 GTP. I dont really like the 04+ body styles. After a few near misses with three other cars, i finally got one. its a 2000 GTP 4 door. Not sure what the color is called, but it looks to be damn near the same as was on my Mustang Bullit which was called Dark Highland Green. It has the ABS rims which I plan to paint black with just the silver lip on them. I will be retrofitting Projectors into the headlights as these stockers SUCK!!

I asked the owner if it had Dex or Green coolant in it, and he thought it was Dex, but when i poured a little distilled water in it the fluid looked like crap and it had a little green tinge to it... Im thinking it might be mixed. Im flushing it out tomorrow... few other little things need done, Belts need changed, coolant reservoir has a hole in the side where a belt rubbed, headlight lenses are so fogged they are almost unuseable at night, ABD harness on drivers front got torn and he twisted the wires to splice, but still has no good connection so ABS light is on and Trac is off... little things, nothing serious, but annoying nonetheless.

I will get pic up tomorrow, its to dark to get them now.

There are some universal coolants that are green. Most lube/mechanic shops will use them to prevent the very thing you are concerned about.

yea, but with the crud that is in the filler neck, I can just imagine what is in the rest of the system. But it isnt overheating... Im honestly not sure If I want to mess with it or if I should just drive it like it is since there isnt a heating issue...

Oh and the pics I promised..

this is from yesterday afternoon...

Previous owner did a totally cool custom stop sign mod to the drivers front corner...

Well there she is in all her dirty glory. I went to the car wash yesterday and no more than 30 mins later it started snowing... Gotta love those post wash storms.

I got BIIIIG plans for it... paint the rims black but leave the silver rim, 05+ Needles, switch the interior with heated leather, possible exhaust, and put miles on it. This is a daily Driver for me. I commute 98 miles one way to work. I cant afford to build any sort of monster car. I just want it comfortable to ride in. :)

No black wheels. A local guy has black 5 spoke with a silver lip in it's ugly IMO.

As far as the headlights I did a retro and could help you if you have questions.

I used to build and sell retros for Mustangs. im good there. I have new housings ordered and already have the projectors, 55w ballasts, 5000K D2S bulbs, and all the little parts to do it. but In the mean time I needed to be able to pass a saftey inspection here in VA and these lenses were so bad you couldnt see the bulbs inside there at all. driving home from PA the night I got it I had to stay right behind my wifes car since these lights were totally useless. give me a couple weeks and I should have my retro done and posted for ya'alls approval. :)

As to the rims, I have to do something with these, there is a good bit of rash on them... I was thinking about the Mustang Bullits.... dark green car, black rims, silver lip. I think they look sharp. probably gonna plasti dip these just to make sure I like it. I dont know... Its rather cold, so I aint messing with them for a few months regardless.

Despite Bullit wheels being way too common I agree they'd look boss on a dark green car.

Are you using Mini's for the retro?

yea I got a set of Mori Mini D2S here. Love them. Just dug everything out and one of my bulbs is missing so I guess I have to order another set... Wondering if the H1's wouldnt be a lot easier to install than the D2S. mine have the posts that go down for the two rear mounting flanges.. In the mustangs I built I just clearanced out a couple slots in the bottom of the reflector bowl.... these GP lights though are a good bit smaller... Would LOVE to put in a pair of FX-R's but there is no way in heck I think I could fit them and keep it strong and good looking...

I used H1's. Fairly easy IMO. The vast majority of the time is spent cutting the shrouds so they actually fit inside the housing.

Someone has done FX-R's. However, they had to cut the top and bottom of the housing and fiberglass around the projector for it to fit. Too much effort IMO, even though the FX-R's have a MUCH better output. Just not worth the effort involved for me to do it, especially since I don't DD my prix anymore. The Mini's provide enough light since I'll rarely drive the car at night. Actually thought of going back to stockers since i'm not a big fan of the way the retro's look on these.

Yea, i dont like cutting much out of the reflectors... To many ties I have seen people that do hit a bump and CRACK!! **** just falls apart. Yea you can glass it in, or try to use JB Weld, but once you weaken it with cutting your always gonna be fighting it. At least in my experience and the Morimoto Mini in D2S flavor has always put out plenty of light for my in other retros... Never used the H1 though. Im hoping its still plenty.
