Gonna upgrade my subwoofer setup



no tellin how it would compare to a pair of 12s. I was gonna go with 2 12' type r's then a single 12, then said screw it they make a 15 lol.
 
Nothing personal but the wanting to hear it outside the car is just plain annoying. I have a wall of 2 18s in my Grand Prix running off of 7415 watts clamped real world power and you can barely hear it outside the car other than the windows shaking. I have layers on layers of deadener.

I understand you want people to hear it, but all that does is put a giant come steal me label on your car. It's personal preference tho.

I dont blare it where I know there's bad neighborhoods, I live in mascoutah IL, theres nothing really bad out here lol. I like how it sounds but my box keeps moving around the trunk, might have to put some kind of support between the front and the middle of the back bumper so it wont move.
 


i got the 2012 version hooked up to a 1600 watt Hifonics amp. and let me tell you 1 is good but i heard two in the store and the manager told the guy to turn them down they are so loud i only have 1 right now but its getting me by until i get a new car because mine right now cant handle 1

Lmao... I guarantee you he is one of, if not the loudest GP here. He has a build log on CACO... same screen name. The thing is nasty.

OP: In my experience, 97-03 cars with single 15" setups do MUCH better with a sub up/port rear corner (driver or passenger... up to you... sounds better on opposite side of the car that the port is on) orientation. Not to mention the fact that it mitigates a lot of rattles. There is usually a light squeak during drawn out low notes, due to the trunk flexing... nothing crazy though.

Yeah I have an 08 GXP lol. But I think my driver window or something is flexing against rubber cause I hear a squeek on loud bass
 


Ah ok... well then excuse me lol. You 04+ fellas are lucky as hell audio-wise... our trunk openings BLOW on the 97-03 cars. As for the squeak you're hearing... the only thing I can really recommend you do is take a look and see if you can isolate the noise to a particular part. You may or may not be able to stop it. Then again, if it wasn't horribly irritating, I wouldn't bother lol.
 
i have seen alot of people going with the type rs they are nice subs for the money but deff no the best and you want true clean power from an amp not some crap that says it produces 2000w, makes a huge difference. i am currently running two type r 12s in a ported box rms 750 to each they pound but my next step is going to be jl 13.5w6 on a jl 750/1 should be awesome
 
Where did you guys ground your subwoofer amp? It's pretty chinsy back there

Currently I'm using an Earl's Audio grounding plate... works great. It's a deal with room for 3 screws... kinda nifty. However, if you aren't running much juice (2,000rms or less) a ring terminal bolted onto one of the seatbelt studs under the rear seat works just fine. Just be sure to remove any paint around the contact area. Please note... this is NOT ideal, but it never gave me any trouble.

I had success with the sub hanging in the spare tire well. Bout 5 cuft tuned 31hz. Wish I woulda kept the box. :-/. Top of box was cut out and had plexiglass after you got the sub in.
 


Any pics of that setup? Sounds like it'd be interesting for sure. I would not want to try to shove 5 cubes net into my trunk... lol.

Lol... indeed. A walled DD is a big commitment. Fun... but a PITA at times. The looks on people's faces are hilarious though.
 
I seen that build too, way too much work for me lol. plus i need my backseat :P. I grounded my amp to the right strut tower bolt, works great.

I am not worried about squeeks from my sound system, I am worried about the squeek/clunk from the left rear. Idk if its the exhaust or what but its annoying as hell when i have a lot of torque from a standstill.
