Gonna upgrade my subwoofer setup

So you want everyone to hear the excessive rattle that its going to cause? I don't understand that to each his own and your going to be keeping the stock Monsoon system? Why not upgrade that and give the subs something better to compete with...been there done that and ended up gutting that whole monsoon system and going aftermarket made a world of difference there's only so much you can control with the stock headunit your limiting your potential.

A old set up I had once upon a time

Those are the tails im wanting to go to as well lol. Is that a JL? Looks like the size box im going for too. I thought about upgrading the stock monsoon but wasnt sure if going from that to a type r components would be a gain or not. I already upgraded the head unit to a Kenwood 996.

Memphis M3 and I'm running Alpine type R in the interior and made a world of difference. Still running them but without subs now since I got over the whole "BOOM" phase and just like clean music.

so you've got the type r components?? is it plug n play?

We'll not exactly plug and play unless you run them through the factory wiring.

I ran all new speaker wire and avoiding using the stock wiring to a dedicated amp on my back seat and had a separate amp for my sub.

well i would just wanna use the stock monsoon amp with it. but I'm satisfied with the monsoon speakers, just need to mess with the equalizer a little more on the head unit. It's got a really good one.

So I will not be trusting Audio Tech in Fairview Heights anymore...the guy at Custom Sounds was right, the guy uses 1/2 inch MDF to make his boxes. I installed the new setup into a ported 15" box that the asian guy at Audio Tech swore the sub would work good in, and the outside wall of the port flexes under heavy bass. I left him a voicemail and tomorrow when I go back for a REFUND, if he does not give it to me, I will make sure his future reputation suffers because of it..box was $69 btw.

here's some pics of what I got.

WTF...??!?!! You shoulda been a ill more educated that box is super super small for that 15!!! Would prolly sound better sealed.. You want to be around 3-3.6 ft ported for that type R.... Maybe more if you can get it to fit. Join caraudioclassifieds.org or caraudio.com

The box that I ordered was custom built for a 15" type r. Its a 2.9 ft ported, cost me the same as the ****ty box i returned lol. The box was coming apart on the outside of the port, carpet was only thing holding it together. the guy had to give me store credit :-/

got the new box in the mail the other day, installed it yesterday. definiteliy better construction on this one, and its a 2.90 cu. sounds really good so far.

Velcro, use the double sided with "hook" on both sides. If you have room tilt box up and Stick the Velcro on bottom of the box. Once it's stuck to the floor carpet it's a real Pita to move again.

Alpine Type R FTW.

I have a single 12" in a ported box with a Mono block 1800w Kenwood to it.

Damn those that thing kick when turned up, These type r's are very powerful.
