Tranny leak out of breather valve

Driving home from work and the transmission goes into neutral but its on D and I cost into my drive way (lucky) and start looking it over, transmission and subframe covered in fluid. All of the hoses are dry so I know it's not them. Got a 4t65e filter and 7 quarts of fluid and when that was all said and done used 6 1/4 quarts. Started it up and it starts leaking ALOT from what looks a breather valve. Can't find anything on it. Plus I know I didn't over fill it, Thanks :th_thumbsup-wink:

Is this the breather on the top of the transmission near the electrical connection?

Typically that leak means that a channel plate gasket has gone bad. I'm sure there are other reasons for it, about the only thing I've come across in the past.

Literally..it's right there. Make sure you note that certain bolts come out to keep the valve body and channel plate together, it saves you those gaskets and dealing with the check balls

Ok I've been reading most of your older posts about the removing and swapping. But it's just a thought, my transmission is at 187,000 miles and been also looking up on 04 comp g transmission swap but all I've found is where people talk about the swapping of the engine, wire harness , and transmission. I just what to transmissions because of 3.29 gears haha. Plus I dont need the tap shift. I know about the transmission PNP/Range switch, and I'm pretty sure the 2000 wire haress with work? And do I need a tune?

Well called the junk yard with the comp g transmission didn't have it so going to get after market gears and replace channel plate gasket, 4th gear hub and EPC/PCS. Thanks again

Yeah could but i like the idea of a HD transmission under the hood, plus im going to replace the gear chain as well with a single chain (3.29). I ordered some of the parts yesturday so no progess yet.

Sorry dsmuts I don't I want to spend to money on buying a gt transmission but I did get my channel body gaskets and 4th gear hub on Friday. I got the transmission in last night. Witch reminds me any one selling a transmission floor jack? Going to have the sub frame back on today. The channel body gasket was ripped bad and as I was getting past the valve body I was finding little pieces of it so ill see if that fixes it.

It should fix it.

FWIW I had an ATV/motorcycle jack sitting around and saw that another guy used one for his install. Since then, it's what I use.

I'm going to start looking for a nice used one around here. Well everything works but 2 to 3rd shift is long its not hard it's just slow.

Only difference is the gear ratio and differential. Just swap the diff and you'll be good.

And the 4th gear hub wasn't hardened on the gt trans, and I think a couple other things weren't hardened. But ya just swap the diff, and cover over and get a hardened 4th and you'll be good.

It wasn't on any of the trans until 03
