So I decided to make a thread about after market hoods. This is for anyone who is looking to buy an aftermarket hood or is looking to for a different hood This is preferably for 97-03 and 04-08 Grand Prixs. If you have an aftermarket hood PM me with pics of it so i can post it in here. Also if you want give me the pros and cons of that hood so i can also post it in here as well. This will help people get an idea of what hood options are out there, with out having to browse online or multiple threads, they can just look in here. Please send pics with the name of that hood, only 1 picture of your hood will be posted so choose wisely. Custom hoods are welcome as well. Lets see how this goes, Im also curious to see the different types of hoods out there myself. I will also have links posted on where to buy an aftermarket hood so if i missed any links let me know.

Re: After Market Hood Reviews

My hood only weighs significantly more due to the metal from the 73 Roadrunner hood being so much thicker. Other metal hoods may use the same gauge metal as the original hood to keep the same weight while changing the look of the car.

carbon fiber sd

pros:
incredibly easy to install total weigh under 25-30 lbs I'd say but installed myself in about 15-20 minutes
Looks amazing imo and saved me the trouble of having to paint it(was initially concerned of cf on a black car sticking out but I like it)

cons:
the passenger side cowl drips water right onto the coil pack during rain or car washes has not caused an issue yet
heard something about the SD being harder to fit Intercoolers under but no experience with that myself

Re: After Market Hood Reviews

Had some fitment issues with my SD Hood, had to modify the hood lock/release mechanism a bit in order to open hood. Mine also got spider cracks up at the top where the hinges are, luckily car was in accident and got repaired. Had some fitment issues at the front of the hood where the bump stops are, could not get a perfectly square fit, but I think I'm the only one who will notice it? Also heard there are clearance issues with some strut tower braces other than ZZP's, which I have and fit with no problems.

Re: After Market Hood Reviews

seems like alot of people notice small spider cracks in the SD hood

I think any fiberglass hood would probably develop small cracks after awhile of heat cycling, that's part of what is scaring me about buying an inferno hood, lol... how well it'll hold up to a PA winter.

Re: After Market Hood Reviews

my hood has been on for over a year now almost 2 years and the cracks it has you can barley see i have to look hard for them there very small

IF you look at the under hood pics on pfyc you can see the vents are real, and I know a few people have said so. It even says functional vents in the description. You can see one inlet for cold air and 2 outlets for heat extractors in the back.

I don't know how you'd "hook up" a transverse mounted motor to ram air and make it effective since it would have to almost do a 180 degree turn... Left to get to the opening of the tb then right to go into the tb, though if you're good at fabbing things up Im sure it wouldn't be too hard to make some ducting to match up with the air inlet and run it over to the tb if you really want to.

It even says its designed to be functional with a k&n intake kit

Though I think the unrestricted flow from a straighter intake combined with just the cooler air flooding in from the vent might be more effective

the vents are completely functional. I just don't see how you could hook up a ram air to that. Where that inlet lines up under the hood it basically sits right over the inner fender wall. i'll try to upload a pic of my underhood to show you.

Is the opening for the intake vent that round hole on the driver side of the hood? In the pfyc picture I though it was the slot looking area front and center
