What did you do to your Car today?

put Premium fuel in the car, and now it doesnt "rattle" anymore.

Should i be using premium fuel??

it is a 3.1l na.

maybe someone moodded the motor??

Changed the oil in my bike, it was more gas than oil. Should probably remember to shut the gas off when i'm done riding.
Ride more. Never had to turn my gas to off, nor have I hooked up the battery to a trickle charger. I have the gear, I just don't ride when there's precipitation. Coldest was last winter when it was down to 28 Fahrenheit. Got frost on the inside of my helmet.

Anyway, yesterday, picked up my car after having a tie rod and rack assembly replaced. Went through another tire because of that. Shop gave it to me for half price. Drove the GP to deliver this morning, power steering started screaming halfway through. Took it back to the shop and they added power steering fluid, all was well. Hope there's not a leak - hope it was just pushing the air out that got in when the steering gear was removed.

My bike is a 79 and the carbs aren't in the greatest shape. Any old honda i've seen has had gas get into the oil if the petcock isn't shut off.

super/premium gas will make any engine feel/run stronger, is it needed for a 3.1? NOPE. ( as in nothing will be damaged) but you could see a mpg gain, small as it may be.

There's your problem. Get a bike from this century. :th_biggrin2: I'm aiming to put 100k on mine. If I was still living in Virginia, I have done in in about 6 years with the commute I had.

I only have $25 in this bike though lol. I can't afford to get a different bike. I'm only at 22500 miles on this one.

That's actually incorrect. Higher octane than needed will kill power and harm mpg. The higher the octane, the harder it is to burn. If you don't knock on 87 then running anything higher will do more harm than good.

it doesnt knock, the 3.1's have a rattle in the rockers - at leasr i thought it was, and now with premium the rattle is gone.
And the rattle was only on accelerating from a stop, and while cold.

sounds more like the engine was pinging, using super is kinda known to stop engines from pinging. aka knocking

found this on wiki.

"Pinging" redirects here. For other uses, see Ping (disambiguation).
Knocking (also called knock, detonation, spark knock, pinging or pinking) in spark-ignition internal combustion engines occurs when combustion of theair/fuel mixture in the cylinder starts off correctly in response to ignition by the spark plug, but one or more pockets of air/fuel mixture explode outside the envelope of the normal combustion front.
The fuel-air charge is meant to be ignited by the spark plug only, and at a precise time in the piston's stroke cycle. Knock occurs when the peak of the combustion process no longer occurs at the optimum moment for the four-stroke cycle. The shock wave creates the characteristic metallic "pinging" sound, and cylinder pressure increases dramatically. Effects of engine knocking range from inconsequential to completely destructive.

the rest of it....Engine knocking - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yes, if it was pinging, then the premium was the cure, but if you are not pinging on 87, premium does nothing for you. It doesn't burn cleaner and it doesn't give you more power.

Also, while I am here, I cleaned the car up today

I know what pinging is, but it shouldnt ping at idle.

I know the 3.1's are known for rattling.

and if its pinging, then the timing needs adjusting - or maybe the timing chain is out.

went to the JY today got some parts 04+ gauge needles, window motor, and owners manual 'just because'

replaced driver side window motor
